Micro Transactions Don't Belong in $60 games.

There's no justification for it. Even if I don't spend a dime myself doesn't mean it's not sick that I paid for this game and every expansion pass and still have items blocked off from me. It doesn't matter what items your selling. It doesn't matter how cheap they are. You're taking advantage of people and it's wrong. It's not a debate.

  • I haven't seen anywhere where bungie says that they will provide free DLC. I saw on the post that they will use the money to "bolster" the game, but it doesn't mean they're going to give things away. In fact I highly doubt they will give anything away for free. A lot of the games that have micro transactions also continue to have DLC that requires payment. If there is a link that leads me to bungie stating that the micro transactions will serve to allow for future DLC to be free, then I'll consider buying Silver; or maybe just get the "free" DLC without buying silver. It presents the problem of some people not buying silver, and still getting free DLC. You know a lot of these people like to complain; you think the people that bought silver will be happy supporting those that didn't pay? So bottom line, I'm pretty sure there will be no free DLC (or very insignificant free DLC) in exchange for some of the community buying in-game currency. So all of those supporting the argument for free DLC, do you have a bungie statement, or a link to one? I would love to see it.

  • They're not taking advantage of you if you don't buy them. They're emotes not exotics. You don't have to buy them just cause they're there.

  • The thing is this. With COSMETIC micro transaction is allows them more yearly budget to make better content. Yes Destiny has a 10 year contract with a 500 million budget spanned out over 10 years. The way a budget that size works is you have that massive pool on the side. You can only use so much of it per year. When you take into account how massive these games are in a data sense now days compared to back even on 360 and ps3 it is scary. It is much more time and effort put into these and time is money. We had a shit raid with Dark Below, we had NO raid in House of Wolves. And we have Kings Fall which is actually a good raid. Luke Smith stated that if a raid isnt finished by the time a content update launches that they will not launch the raid. Thus another House of Wolves let down. Not only will they make more money off of this then the DLC packs every 3-4 months, they are also going to be releasing this content as free content updates. So those of us who actually are excited and contributing to bungie by buying a simple DANCE emote or a point and laugh emote, we are essentially paying for the DLC for those who refuse all of this. Alot of games do COSMETIC ONLY cash shops/micro transactions. And they do amazingly well. I personally hope to see new shaders a even some cool sparrow skins come out. Shit I would even be excited to see armor SKINS that could be applied over our current armor to have more unique looks. Until they put like strange coins and exotic engrams in this shop. The game is heading to a good horizon if this plan they have laid out works. No more having to pay for DLC packs? Maybe a yearly expansion to buy but thats it. And most MMOs have that and you dont see many people flipping their shit over that. REPOST for everyone to see.

  • GTA V COD AW ESO Metal Gear Solid Forza games Battlefield 4 and Hardline Many, MANY others have all had microtransactions, and many will to come. (Probably all) I'm sure all the forums for these games had the few hundred people out of the millions of gamers complaining, thinking that something the developers are just putting in the game belongs to the player immediatly...for free. Its not free keeping the game going. They have alot of employees working 24 hours to keep the game stable. I encourage everyone to buy an emote or two. Spend a couple bucks to support this amazing game. I have nearly 500 hours of time in this game, and ab $200. (Xbox stopped reading disks, so I bought the game online). I will happily continue to support this game and this franchise because they have continued to increase the enjoyment I get out of the game. Try finding another hobbie that gives this much entertainment out of less than 50 cents an hour. It baffles me how people get so angry about something that doesnt affect the gameplay. Doesnt affect anything ab the game except the way your character moves... IF YOU DON'T WANT IT, DON'T BUY IT

    • You realize that with micro transactions it allows for free content instead of having to pay 40$ every couple months for a new dlc

    • These posts are becoming a bit tiresome. "Holy shit they're adding dances that you can buy with a new premium currency WTF R U DOIN BUNGEEE" #pay2windancebattles I'll have a problem when the microtransactions involve shit that matters, you know, like gear.

    • I will buy what I like from micro trans because I support bungie and the games they make. It's the same reason I buy all species fishing license but primarily fish for bass because I don't mind investing in supporting entities that entertain or provide a good service. Also there seems to be some huge disconnect with the fact it cost the company money to build, maintain, support, and provide infrastructure for the game. People that make posts like this act like they just pressed a few buttons from a vending machine out popped destiny like a a dam cup of coffee or something. I think it's good that people question bungie decisions and give feedback. I believe that bungies respects its community and listens to feedback. However I also think there is a sense of entitlement from certain people they expect everything to be free all the time without understanding everything that is involved to create these entertainment experiences. If I can give few bucks here and there for a certain entertainment value so the folks at bungie can continue to create entertainment experiences I like I think that is a good business model. It puts the decision in the players hands how much they want or can afford to support the folks that make the game.

    • Ummm Guildwars 2 did the no subscription microtransaction thing no real problems there. The sick part is people thinking that stuff which is clearly new content somehow falls under the same heading/price as the original game.

      •
Even if I don't spend a dime myself doesn't mean it's not sick that I paid for this game and every expansion pass and still have items blocked off from me.
You did not purchase a game. You purchased a limited use software licence which reserves the rights to determine which services you do or do not have access to, which the issuing party(s) (BUNGIE and Activision) may change, amend, or alter at any point in time with or without notice or consent within the confines of what permissible under the law. In short, you bought a season ticket to a digital theme park, basically Disney World online. You don't own anything but that ticket, which grants you admission. You want a soda? Pay for it. You want a custom picture of you riding Space Mountain? Pay for it. You aren't ENTITLED to jack shit other than admission to the attractions that your ticket permits you access to, of which is entirely up to the issuer to determine. Even then it's only good for the season, at the end of which you'll be asked to pay more if you want access to the full theme park experience once again. You don't like it? Tough, it's not changing because you're bitching on the forums. They don't give a singular shit about you crying on their forums. You don't like anti-consumer practices? Stop giving these fuckers your money, and quit being an entitled asshat when you do.

        • Here's the crazy thing with going free to play/micro transactions. People that are ok with paying for the little cosmetic stuff that has zero impact on the game, like me, can buy it. People that only want what's free and don't care about paying extra, you, don't need to. And the best part, you'll still get the DLC without paying now. Everyone complains about buying bungie having multiple paid DLC's a year. So they give us this option to fund their game. A totally 100% optional transaction system. You get the content, and you don't HAVE to pay anymore, outside of the one Expansion pack a year. Stop complaining so much. This is life, you don't get everything you want for free. If you don't like it, too bad. Nothing... absolutely nothing in life is 100% free

          • I love cosmetic microtransactions in games like this, where they don't impact gameplay and their profits almost solely fund free updates to the game further down the pipeline for everyone else. People buy a thing, they get what they want. Bungie gets funding, they get what they want. Everybody else gets free updates in the future. It's a win-win-win. What part of this are you seeing as unethical?

            • Most games, free or $60 in price, contain "Micro-Transactions." Call of Duty Advanced Warfare had "Supply drops" Metal Gear Solid has transactions as well. You don't need to buy the stuff, but you better well thank the people who buy the "Cosmetic" items because you're getting free content because of them.

              • game prices have not really gone up in a while. Would you rather pay $75 for a full game, and $50 for the expansions? If they do that, then they will not need to do micros? Other than micros they could do a subscription. Game companies are not charities.

              • These emotes are like the cheap little trinkets in a gift shop. You don't have to buy them but they're interesting enough for some people to buy them. Buying the big ticket items from the gift shop doesn't entitle you to the little stuff.

                • The micro transactions they are offering are the same as the ones you can buy in WoW, just aesthetic things. WoW costs $60 per expansion and has a $15/mo sub fee, yet people aren't complaining over there. Yes there are a handful of people who refuse to buy the items, but no one accused Blizzard of ripping off their player base. They were all too busy throwing money at the screen. Destiny is not your typical $60, one off game. It's a growing/evolving MOFPSRPG (omitted "massive") type thing. You can't compare it to other shooters.

                • U know what else doesn't belong in games, filler quests. There's no substance to some of these quests its like they are putting in fillers just to keep us playing. For example, get blighted ether from taken lieutenants, then kill taken lieutenants to get taken champions on every single -blam!-ing planet. Then go to Cosmo drome kill lieutenants to bring out champions there and beat like 3 or 4 of them. Then the next quests go to five other areas and kill taken lieutenants. I mean wtf destiny, get creative, and the fact that I have to do this on all three characters makes me cringe.
