Cod only exists as a cash grab. And EA will always be EA. Gta is the only place this kind of thing has worked because all dlc is free. So whether you bought it immediately at $60 or waited until it was cheaper, all add on content is free in a game with a largely rewarding progression but may require grinding for what you want. Destiny requires grinding for what you need. That's a huge difference. If it gets to the point that you can pay to get high level gear, then many will feel backed into a corner to pay or get left behind. It's dancing at the moment, but if it isn't checked with a firm stance made (doesn't have to be full on stopped) now, then it will be too late later.

You're literally saying that buying power is fine if dlc is free but buying cosmetics is not because the dlc isn't free.

Cosmetics is one thing. Needed equipment is different. Also, if the dlc is worthwhile, then I'm okay paying for it. But the examples used in the original comment either aren't worthwhile or have free dlc all together.
