To all those complaining of a lack of story in Destiny, short of hitting you upside the head with a story-stick, they couldn't include more without turning the game into a Final Fantasy style "play 12m, watch 22m of cutscenes, repeat".
I at least am glad they segregated it the way they did.

That's really not true at all. You learn more about The Reapers (with minimal cutscenes) is the first 20 minutes of gameplay of mass effect 1 than literally anything within destiny or its expansions. Sure the grimoire might hold a lot of lore. Problem is it's all out of order, not unlocked, or simply incoherent. And I just don't have the time to try and string it all together. I really respect the people who have figured a lot of the lore out. But the grimoire was a horrible idea, this was supposed to be a video game, not an encyclopedia with several pages missing.

This game has no story. Just cards to read.

There still isn't a story. A story needs connection. One line between points. These are dots among a page. Nothing to draw them together. No character to follow. No guardian to become legend. This is why Destiny failed. I didn't want to become legend with 5 other guys 3 times a week until the next raid. That blows. Especially with no story to follow or meaningful progression. Hiding VERY good bits of lore on a website? Interstitial as -blam!- but by no means a story.

That's just false.

Do you even Tomb Raider dude?

Nada amigo, never had the pleasure. I have literally played about a dozen franchises since NES and that wasn't one of 'em.

It's free one xbone this month

Stuck on the Sony consoles here. It is on my to-play list though. I hear too much good about it to not give it a shot.
-
But that's not even remotely true.

It's pretty close minded to assume that story has to involve a ton of cutscene. Mission dialogue from ghost, Vanguard, Eris, or whoever woks just fine. For example, the House of Wolves DLC did a pretty decent job of touching on the subjects of Fallen history and the Reef Wars through just this kind of dialogue. Secondly, they could have placed the cards in the actual game for players to read (or better yet, listen to them) if they want to in the game. Thirdly, even if they did it through cutscenes, it doesn't have to be overboard. For example, almost everyone agrees that Mass Effect 2 had a good story, and no one says it had too many cutscenes.

It would be really cool if there were a Library or Study area in the Tower where you could read collected Grimoire. I will admit to having limited gaming experience too, so I don't have a lot to judgr by or cross-reference against. Maybe it's because I'm so into the lore but I have a hard time playing without seeing bits and pieces of it everywhere. Dialogue, scattered symbols and words, bosses and mini-bosses, locations, npcs and our various antagonists all speak of or allude to deeper mysteries and meanings we're just starting to delve into as Guardians. Maybe the story is not easy to accidentally fall in to, I will grant that but anyone looking to and willing to dive in will find there is plenty overhead, with the murky bottom as of yet undiscovered.

Lore is fine as stuff in the background, but the actual plot of Destiny is garbage. Which is what most people are talking about when they say "the story".

How so? You're a reborn warrior of the light fighting against alien scavengers, an intergalatic empire, time-hopping sentient machines, and a pan-dimensional symbiote king and his army... With the help of ancient technology and a mysterious giant unknowable orb of... something, mankind has huddled together creating one last city. Ours is the struggle to turn it into the First City. In my opinion, anyone saying this game has a weak plot and limited story is due to apathy, lazyness, or a refusal to pick up on any of the (oft'times subtle) cues presented.

Edited by Demagogue: 10/7/2015 2:30:36 AMAre you -blam!-ing serious right now? I can write a two sentence summery of anything. Literally anything. That doesn't mean it has a good plot. Yes, a rough, generic, disjointed, unclear plot exists within the game technically, but that is not what is being argued. What is being argued is that that plot is trash, just like your opinion.

Excellent counter arguement. I cam see this debate will be productive.
-
So are you just going to ignore me now?

I would prefer audio logs that you can turn on when patrolling like how bioshock had audio books set around the world. It's a shame a whole lot of history in destiny is overlooked because it's not easily accessible.

I stopped caring about grimoire when the first dlc dropped it just see it now as an excuse for players that preform badly Ingames to use to say they have a higher number than you. "so git gud scrub" (sorry if my grammar is terrible never really got q chance to learn, since my teacher would humiliate me with it"
-
That would be another cool option. I would be pretty happy when I am forced to collect materials or something to have Grimoire read to me.
