How do you expect Bungie to fund this game? Seriously, they have to get money somehow, how do you reason the funds it takes to make the content we play? Do you even understand how much it cost to make TTK?
Microtransaction profits are used to make new content in lots of different games, to name a few, Mass Effect 3, GTA V, Warframe, ESO, Path of Exile, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft... The list goes on.

Destiny has the world record for a videogame budget (500M). Nearly doubling the previous holder (290M). Granted all of that doesn't go straight into the game but then again, neither will the money from MTs... Indeed, how could they ever fund this game...

I dont think you understand, the record they broke was having Destiny be downloaded, that was an automatic download that was required to play. The profits from the TTK were used to pay off what they spent, and then pay the workers for their time.
