That's right, at reset time this morning (m10/d07/y15) Bungie managed to shit on the community's hopes and dreams once again.
They had spit not only in the faces of the /r/SearchForTheSleeper community, but in the faces of anyone who thought there would be an actual mystery to the quest for this fabled weapon.
You know what makes it even worse?
DeeJ had even made a few tweets not long ago, telling us to "keep searching, the truth is out there" and to "walk through the door we've been shown".
He lied.
The hype for the Sleeper Simulant was to keep people playing Destiny for a little longer.
It was a fucking business scheme.
You could've proved us right, attaching the quest and gun to an elaborate mystery, like Old Bungie would've done.
However, instead of doing something awesome for an awesome gun, you flipped us the bird and put it behind a timegate.
Also, that has got to be the laziest piss-poor excuse for a quest I've seen from you, Bungie.
Step One: Go to this room that's been there since December 2014, and kill multiple waves of Knights while memorizing spawn orders, and kill a giant Swordbearer.
Step Two: Use said spawn orders to formulate a code and punch it into this item.
Step Three: Run through a place you've already seen in a previous mission really fast and kill some wizards.
Step Four: Dismantle things, run a mission from Vanilla, and complete Warsat events.
Step Five: (edited) Wait until the next day I guess?
(edited) Step Six: Run a higher level version of 'Fallen S.A.B.E.R.' and get a weapon frame.
(edited) Step Seven: Hand the frame into the gunsmith and get the weapon.
I honestly thought that the Sleeper Simulant, the gun that was hyped like crazy before TTK launch, would've had a better questline than this.
Congratulations on fucking up something that had so much potential AGAIN, Bungie!
I wouldn't be surprised if No Time to Explain's questline is as lazy as the Simulant's.
So DeeJ, why the false hope? Aside from marketing, why would you lie to the community?
I'm waiting for an answer.
~Anarchy
Edit: Oh, I'm trending. Cool.
Edit 2: I don't want to say "I told you guys so", but....
The rest of the quest was a letdown. Not surprising.
Edit 3: 300+ replies, and a new game. Every time you see "The quest isn't over yet", take a shot.

Hold on a second!...bungie lied AGAIN!?...Say it ain't so! Bungie is not what they used to be without Joe Staten and the MANY designers that were there during the halo days. There is no trust because they(bungie) have demonstrated THEY can NOT be trusted time and time again. Bungie has shown that they, on MANY occasions, they either ignore A LOT of good ideas from many people like Malphisto, a whole bunch of others and even Lost Sols, whom have had outstanding ideas...or that they are either incompetent or just unable to implement those ideas. Innovative rather than planned obsolescence or extortion/ponzi scheme/pay wall tactics Right!? https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/157307267/0/0 But yet they can make purple balls glow at the tower and patch loot caves and fix "issues" with posts going missing REAL quick, sometimes within the same day! But yet the BIG issues go unnoticed or not even acknowledged! Issues like dedicated servers and fixing obvious lag with pvp and even pve. Optional matchmaking...don't get me started...upgradeable year 1 gear. Vault space. The loot system. REMOVAL of content for non ttk buyers. Many more issues still. But I just listed the big ones. And through all of this, what has been bungies approach to the issues they have fixed? 1 step forward and 2 steps back. And I'm not talking about Paula Abduls song neither. For every fix they create more issues, like with the increase in vault space. It was nice and should have been implemented since launch...but was instantly nullified with all the gear they made obsolete with ttk. Then again what do they care when they got our money? Previous currencies nullified with the next dlc. What do they care when they got our money? An obvious beta game for $60 to $100 was sold to us but yet they talk of potential with ttk, when it is WAY PAST the potential part. Day 1 should have been the proof! But what do they care when they have our money? HOW was bought by many just before ttk. And now all of HOW, Crota and VOG is pointless. Almost all the exotics we have now...some of them just recently found...less powerful than any green or blue weapon in ttk! But what do they care, they have our money? We ask for optional matchmaking and their response? Remove some matchmaking! Cause they already have our money! Bungie has shown to us that as long as we continue to give them money, they can make any changes they want regardless if we asked for it or not, why? Because we agreed to their terms when we gave them more money. So...it's fairly obvious that no matter how many great ideas are presented to bungie...no matter how many fixes are brought to their attention...they simply don't care because they know that a lot of people are going to throw money at the screen. They have shown their intentions through their actions and in most cases, inaction! The ONLY thing that WILL motivate bungie and activision to change for the better and learn how to treat their customers is a BOYCOTT. I simply refuse to pay $100 for a beta game and then tell them how to make said game better. I refuse to pay them to do THEIR job! Why should we have to pay to help make a game that SHOULD have been made ALREADY? We didn't have to pay to help make Halo or Halo 2 did we? And why should we pay to only have the rug pulled from under our feet with every "update" or dlc? So...until bungie and activision learn how to treat their customers and fix the big issues with the game I will certainly not give them more money...I will instead... BOYCOTT BUNGIE AND ACTIVISION
THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT THE GUN ITSELF. THIS POST IS ABOUT THE QUEST TO OBTAIN IT. Bungie blew it. They had the potential to make a really fun and engaging questline with this gun, but they didn't. What we got seemed broken, incomplete, and downright lazy. None of it made any sense from a lore standpoint, and it certainly didn't live up to the hype. I know Bungie didn't write this article, but damn if they didn't keep the hype train rolling. On Twitter and even in the Bungie Weekly Update they continued to drop hints to get us to keep searching for this ultimate mystery gun. Hints like "We can only show you the door...", "The truth is out there", and more. Here are some quotes directly from the article: - "The Taken King's Biggest Mystery" - "...little did we know how elusive the weapon would turn out to be." - "...no one has figured out how to acquire the Sleeper Simulant." - "...the community continues to search" - "...the ancient artifacts trigger a memory in the ancient Exo gunsmith, and he will invite players on an odyssey to repair and reactivate..." - "...unique tasks and objectives... which might even include puzzles that are too hard for any one player to figure out on their own." - "They just don’t want to spoil any of the surprises that are secreted away in the landscape." Looking back on this, I can't believe some of the things I'm reading. First of all, the search was for nothing. There was no great mystery, no hidden secret. 10/7 rolled along and poof, there it was. Bungie flipped a switch and out came the quest for the Sleeper Simulant. Everyone involved in the search had wasted their time and effort. Not only that, but when we saw the quest, it was NOT what any of us expected. The first step was... awful. It made absolutely no sense from a lore standpoint, a technical standpoint, or even a gameplay standpoint. The first step was to go into Rasputin's bunker and fight off some Hive. The Hive spawned in a straight line, some taken, some not, and that was that. After killing all four waves, we got a Transceiver asking for a passcode. Now here is where thinks get weird... The passcode for this object is the order in which the Hive/Taken spawn in during the battle... In what universe does that make ANY sense? Why on Earth would Rasputin, an all powerful Warmind AI, set the password that locks up one of his most powerful weapons to be the spawn order of some enemies that didn't even belong there? THIS MAKES NO SENSE. As an IT professional, this infuriates me. As a gamer, this disappoints me. As a hunter for the Sleeper Simulant, this just plain confuses me. I just don't get it. Upon completing the passcode we are given the IKELOS Fusion Core which we had all been searching for. How did we even get this item? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I guess it was just chilling inside this little tablet because that makes sense. Now we have to take this gadget around and do some stuff with it. At least some of this part makes sense. Taking it around to Warsats and collecting data was one of the things we fully expected to happen. Taking it to the Ishtar Archives was also obvious, but... WHY did we take it there? This is never explained in any capacity. I was hoping to get some links to the FWC, Dr. Shim, and the other Vex-researchers who have links to Rasputin, but nope! We got no explanation. Just go do this quest and TADA here's a blueprint, now go get your gun. After turning in the fusion orb we have to wait a day for Banshee to play with it, then he tells us to go to the SABER strike. Again, little to no explanation here. We just go do the strike, get the Sleeper Simulant (I guess it was just right there the whole time?!), and take it back to Banshee to receive the gun. That's it. Where is the mystery? Where is the hype? Where are the puzzles?! The thing with the Hive doesn't count because that was just plain stupid and it made NO sense whatsoever. Whoever thought of that should honestly be fired and sent back to school. I think the gun itself is alright, it has its niche, but this quest... This quest was the biggest disappoint in any game in recent memory. I hope you do better next time Bungie, but I have my doubts.
Edited by presc1ence: 10/9/2015 1:43:45 PMHe lied as its all bunige know how to do now. Plus bungie KNOW by now that all their whales LOVE getting fingered, nearly as muhc as bending over to takeit!
-
In all fairness to Bungie; they've been giving their players/customers the middle finger since September 2014.
-
There's no pleasing this community. Make something too obtainable and people bitch. Make it too hard and people bitch. I have a feeling if they tried to do something like Battlefield 4's Phantom Program, there'd be tons of whining about it being way too hard.
-
omg the knights and their spawn sequence was the frigging way you were supposed to figure out the codes.....? That was actually really genius... I feel like you sorta shot yourself in the foot as far as convincing me how crappy the quest was with that. That small amount of clever depth really makes me look back on the whole thing alot differently.... very smart on Bungie's part.. Seems like something the old them would totally do honestly.
-
The thing is that if they did make it some super hard to get gun the forums would cry "it's not fair that I don't have enough friends or time to get this gun, bungie hates the solo players". It's about time everyone realizes that no matter what route bungie takes not everyone will be happy about it.
-
The quest was a joke. And the weapons a joke. All the hype and drama built up around what turned out to be nothing more than a normal quest line with nothing new and a weapon that's nothing all that special. Hopefully this will teach all the players that if you expect something special or nice from Bungie you're going to be let down.
-
Man I'm right there with you bro there's too many retards on the internet that just wanna down everyone that's mad about the bs bungie does Just know ur right and you've won over a fan
-
Never high your hopes. The letdown will be worse. - A wise man somewhere in Asia. Like seroiusly, they didn't asked you to do anything. Nor the community. They just created a mistery and players got their conclussions. Is not their fault your expected more from the quest. IMO the quest was original and fun (Warsats aside). Except for the last step. I expected it to be harder or at least have more to do. But meh.. I got my gun and I like it.
-
And to make it even worse the Sleeper Simulant only comes with 7 shots and year 2 "extra fusion rifle ammo" armor doesn't add ANY! The only way to get extra shots is to equip a pair of year 1 "extra heavy ammo" boots. Just sad.
-
I don't think the sleeper stimulant quest line is done. The item says only 1 part is activated I think the gun will get another upgrade.
-
We obviously need Shia to come in here to motivate everyone to pull the needle from their arms and put an end to their addiction problem.

They knew the quest line was too short, they knew that you could only hold 7 rounds total, but that's probably why Bungie made the weapon have only 290 damage. That gives the player the choice to Vault it or to infuse it. But considering the hype all went to waste for this gun, I honestly think that you were entirely in your right to post this.

Destinys terrain and geaphic design is so wunderful, but still devoid of life. It's so sad to see such great talent to be wasted. Why can't they come up with some content that's not made for dumbfucks? The Oryx "revenge" story was as generic as you can get. It was full of dumb tropes and lazy game design. The raid looks awsome tough, eve if the rewards are only good to do the raid faster, which is again retarded game design. Rewards should make another part of the game easier and add new content.

Edited by LukeWarmGamer: 10/9/2015 4:38:34 AMDrop this game already, it's a scam, and you people can't see it. Anybody play the Battlefront beta yet? Thats a scam too. Any game that gives you less then it's predecessor is a SCAM. Bethesda is about the only honest gaming company anymore. Activision, Bungie, EA, Dice... Their all trash, and only in it for the money.
-
Just wait in a year before Destiny 2 comes out and Xur will sell it, just a week before announcing the Sleeper is getting nerfed.
-
Edited by Vampire Nox: 10/8/2015 9:39:36 PMBump. Now that all of this is coming out, I don't seem like the crazy asshole so much anymore. I'm a prophetic asshole. ;)

I dont care because i put zero effort into finding the mystery of the sleeper. But i feel bad for all those guys coding and searching. All the work completely eggd on for no reason. What a waste of time. I understand why there pissed. Hey guys the mystery could be so difficult not one person could solve this puzzle guardians. What a load of bologni.

Same thing with Paradox and the VOG. Been searching all year, literally weeks on end, to find out what I and so many countless others knew, was locked behind a time gate paywall. :/
