I have Hawkmoon,Ace of Spades,a Down and Doubt 00-0 with awesome perks and you know what? They're collecting dust in my vault.
This is happening due to the fact that Handcannons, compared to the other kinds of weapon,do not offer anything special, sure some of you might still be using them, but I don't see any reason to use them anymore even tho Hawkmoon has been my favorite weapon for a lot of time in year one. I took a break from Destiny for 7ish months and when I came back I sadly realized my beloved Handcannon was barely useful. Their range right now is ridicolously low, even on high-range-stat HC,the damage falls off quickly once your targets moves a few meters away; also, the amount of reserve ammo is unbelievable low,if you compare the amount of DPS of an HC to the DPS of a pulse rifle, you'll notice they're usually quite similar, normally a high impact HC deals (with one bullet) the same amount of damage of a high impact pulse rifle burst, the reload speed is similar (most of the times,Pulse Rifles are faster, but it's fine) and the ammo in the mag are similar too (8 bullets normally on a HC,24 bullets normally on a pulse rifle). My point is that, since the DPS (only at mid-low range, sadly) of a HC equals to the DPS of a pulse rifle, why can I only hold 65 bullets on my Ace of Spades compared to the 350+ of my Red Death? The total amount of reserve ammo should be 3ish times lower, not 6 times lower, which means that HC,to be a viable choice, should have twice the reserve ammo they have now. I do understand that HC were too powerful and they needed a range nerf,I'm fine with that,I just wanted to point it out to make people understand what's the situation; but at least give us HC lovers the chance to not feel like we're doing something wrong when using our favorite type of weapon by giving HC more reserve ammo, that's all I ask for really...it wouldn't make HC OP or anything like that, but it would make me and hopefully a lot more people enjoy playing with Handcannons. (I know a lot of people do play with HC and they probably think I'm complaining for no reasons,I'm not saying that they're not usable,I'm just saying that I feel like they offer less than any other kind of weapon right now). Does anyone else agree with what I wrote?
TL;DR: Handcannons should get more reserve ammo to be as viable as the other kinds of weapons for PvE.

Edited by Jio: 10/11/2015 12:32:43 PMA dmg buff in pve would help.
-
The handcannon i have now is perfectly OK
-
Scouts are best for me on pve

The damage drop off is a little to much atm honestly.

Edited by WTXKING23: 10/10/2015 12:40:10 PMLook at my hand cannon on my Titan. Fatebringer reborn.

Edited by Nunkey: 10/10/2015 11:31:13 AMI used to love hand cannons and like the hawkmoon but I'd rather use the exotic slot on the special or heavy. I've tried a few other hc's out but dont like the look and feel of them, they're bulky and have crap sights. I've yet to find a revolver style one to try... The damage fall off seems to be nerfed to much for my liking. Its a cannon so it fires big bullets and should have good range. The accuracy seems about right. I'll just use weapon types that i dont like but are effective until things change.

Bump. I stopped using them because I'm usually out of ammo every 2 minutes... and I make my shots count. Hand cannons need either a major PvE buff or they need unique perks that make them viable again. For example... a massive agility boost when using them and I think their RoF needs to more closely resemble TLW
-
Yep... They ruined the handcannon with the stupid low ammo limit. Get your shit together bungie. It's about ballance, not nerfing shit into ground.
-
Hawkmoon is great. But really, you got Fabian strategy, you got red death, you got Suros, you got Monte Carlo, you got Zhalo. Why use hawkmoon? It's just a less fun weapons to use even though it's really really really good
-
Too long. Didn't read. Hawkmoon is still a beast in PVE and PVP.
-
Thank the Crucible Criers for ruining our PvE gameplay. I am a salt block.
-
Love my down and doubt 00, firefly and third eye
-
They need to increase the reserve ammo to about 100. 50 is nothing i run out of ammo all the time.
-
You could have shortened this post a lot by simply saying, "Hand cannons suck now. WTF, Bungie?!"
-
Raid handcannon is dope but reloads too slow and it's reserve is far too small I always run out of ammo with them so I don't bother using them It would be nice to see a change

More reserve ammo would be nice. They do do more damage than pulse rifles and scouts though. The range fall-off is troublesome, but pair up with a sniper rifle and you're good to go in most situations. It does seem odd that they have so many new hand cannons, yet they are all but useless in the raid. Their focus does seem to be aimed more at PVP though. I'm personally enjoying Hawkmoon, Imago Loop and Ace of Spades in strikes however. The infusion system does force you to pick and choose which weapons (in the near-term) are going to be upgraded, and hand cannons are near the bottom of that list, along with shotguns and auto rifles.
-
Yea they needed the accuracy and it's just not fun missing shots you know shout hit but didn't due to bullet not going straight
-
I feel your pain. This debuff is almost up there with what happened to auto rifles so long ago....to which they realized they made a mistake and have now fixed that in 2.0. I can only hope the same happens with the future rebalancing of HCs.
-
I find hc are more realistic now, they shouldn't have the range of a scout rifle.
-
Don't agree! In pvp yes, but in pve I still use mainly HC and think they are great! I even think the range is alright and the impact is still high...
-
"Paragraphs and punctuation" needs the be the next hand cannon you try to get. I hear it's really helpful

Wish there were pvp pve specific weapons and armor. Sucks in one area but great in the other.
