Eyes are my dayjob, and you are kind of right on a very small tv or handheld game it could be as you say, but the whole way fps work is by tricking our brains with cues that make us feel like we are experiencing 3d images.
There is even a phenomenom called QUAKE eyes from extended fps pc gaming leading to a depth perception issue for a few hours post play.
