I know its a lot of fun for some, but PvP is always maddening and frustrating for me and I avoid it whenever I can. That's why I always let out a few choice words whenever I am in the middle of a quest step to get something super awesome that I'd like to have suddenly leads into forcing me to do stuff in PvP. I might be the only one that has issues with this, but my enjoyment just drops once I see that "oh, you gotta do PvP to finish that thingy you gotten halfway on".
@Bungie - do you really need to bar everything awesome behind a PvP wall? I am doing the daily PvP stuff, do you REALLY need to force me to play something I don't like even more? FYI I can tell you that I'm not getting more fond of it the more I am playing it. There is super awesome gear locked to PvP exclusively so do you really need to have everything else awesome have to go through it as well? Chaperone, the exotic swords, the rank 5 gunsmith handcannon. I suppose I could chose not to do them naturally, but when just about every cool weapon is locked behind PvP that is really reducing my options of cool flashy stuff.
I beg you Bungie, for the future - stop locking so much behind PvP all the time - Have PvP exclusive gear like Iron Banner and such, but stop making most of the items have to go through PvP. Makes me a sad lion =C
All that negative stuff said, I have to say that I do thouroughly enjoy the changes to the Taken King and how some of the unique item quest like "Black Spindle" and "Sleeper Simulant" works. These kinda things I love, great work all around!
Edit: Wooh! Big subject. Bigger then I thought. Having hard time reading everything coming inn. One player came with the suggestion of having two ways of unlocking items. One PvE and the other PvP. Then players could pick which to go for. I like that idea. I get that PvP'ers aren't happy having to do PvE, same as I'm not happy doing PvP. I know what I like, but as some have pointed out, I can't expect Bungie to cater only to me. Thanks for a lot of feedback, I'm going to have to mull this over for a bit.

I'm pretty good at PvP, it's just that I hate to play it because my connection is so bad. Same with the raids, I can barely finish them because I keep getting DC out the party. So I just mostly stick to doing strikes, patrol, and soloing PvE content.
-
Bungie stop making lions sad, you jerks!
-
What about those people who try to do PvP only and are forced into doing PvE? You don't hear them complain...
-
I don't love pvp either, but you should try mayhem rumble it's the most fun I've ever had especially if you're a titan defender throwing suppressor grenades which kill supers and using armor of light in your bubble.
-
You understand that there are many pvp only players that feel the same way about the raid exclusive stuff that would force them to go outside of pvp to obtain right?? It is not a one way street.... stop being so narrow minded and selfish....
-
I am absolutely terrible at pvp but when I had to do the sword quest I just did mayhem. When I didn't have ammo for the sword I just hit ppl with the hilt lol. Finished it in three matches.
-
I agree
-
Every time I get close to finishing that chaperone quest I get smashed by a hammer. I'll get to about 70 percent and I'll run into every single player on the opposing team and they all seem to have their super or heavy.
-
I agree 100%
-
You know this wouldn't be a problem if Bungie just used a standardized set of weapons for PvP like just about every other shooter...
-
-sigh- the game has pve and pvp entertwined. it's not like halo or call of duty where they are seperate. If you want access to all of the content you have to play the entire game. Thems the facts. That would be like pvpers complaining they don't get access to raid gear because they dislike pve. One side is not more valid or more important.
-
Agreed.
-
Do you propose then that all exotics should also be obtainable from PvP-only quest lines too then?
-
I hate PvP too. I'm trying to decide if my exotic sword will be worth having to have to put up with 4 hours of misery.
-
It's not locked you just don't want to do it
-
Let's be real, it's because you suck
-
By the rank 5 gunsmith hand cannon so you mean The Ace of Spades? That is entirely pve
-
It is ok for you to not like PvP. It is not ok for you to moan that your not good enough to complete the PvP relevant steps to get gear. If you cant do it you dont deserve it. Is that so hard to understand. Now get a grip and stop crying its a game.
-
I hate having to play it too
-
Alright this is my opinion so no need to hate but I didn't like pvp for a long time I mean a longggggg time. Finally after seeing the new crucible questline and the chaperone quest I jumped into pvp, I sucked so bad at first but eventually I started getting better and now I can hit like 6.0 Kd's in a few games. Practice made it so much more enjoyable
-
It's not okay. You're a feeble fool who needs to git gud.
git rekt m8
-
I hate strikes probably more than you hate pvp. Stop locking things behind a pve wall?
-
All you're gonna get here is a bunch of pvp-lovers hating on you for not enjoying that aspect of the game. They'll tell you to "git gud", which is basically the dumbest thing they can say, because it's been used to hell and back and you don't just wake up one day and suddenly have more PvP skill. It's a stupid phrase used by those who can't come up with anything better to say or want to belittle you because they think they are better than you. Unfortunately, Bungie emphasized PvP this time and there's a lot of quests that force you into the crucible to complete them. There's no way around it. That's great for some and not for others. You'll, sadly, be locked out of content if you refuse to play PvP. I hate PvP, but I'll eventually go into the crucible again to get the weapons I'm missing out on. But look at all these assholes bashing you for not liking PvP. It really just shows who the more mature players here are, and part of the reason why this community is so toxic. TL;DR: Enjoy what you want. You don't have to play any part of the game you don't want to, but you'll unfortunately miss out on weapons and gear, especially since Trials gear will be top-tier just like last time.
-
You want pvp weapons, go play pvp. Some people who only play pvp are also mad that they have to go and raid to get things like ToM, but you don't see them complaining.
-
I feel your pain. It's not so much that I don't like pvp, it's just that I'm rubbish at it. During Iron Banner my K/D briefly goes positive then I'm back to being mostly dead. I will not get better, I cannot react faster, I'm stuck with it. The Chaperone is taking me forever, the First Curse will likely be beyond me. It is frustrating.
-
I only disagree with the quests that require you to dominate in the crucible. I.e. the first part of the chaperone quest requires you to be really good, but the shotgun doesn't go down upon death. Makes no sense.
