When the FWC have driven themselves to extinction and Dead Orbit has finally overcome their procrastination and left our world who will be there to ensure the survival of humanity? The New Monarchy. Many of you who feel that having a single leader is an anachronistic and foolish idea but would it be better to have a squabbling circle of officials divide us along political lines? The benevolent leader will guide us to a better future. They will be chosen from among us and be bound to serve the will of the people. If not then they will be deposed and a new leader will be elected. We will rise, we will overcome and a new Golden Age will dawn.
All raise their fists to the Red and White. All Hail the New Monarchy!

Straight from wikipedia:
A monarchy is a form of government in which sovereignty is actually or nominally embodied in one or several individual(s) reigning until death or abdication
And while it does mention the existance of "elective monarchies" it also says
There is no popular vote inbolved in elective monarchies, as the elective body usually consists of a small number of eligible people.
In the end, I did learn that there actually is such a thing as elective monarchies, but they have certain limitations too. Or really, I just finally made the connection between the electoral process of the Vatican and the pope (which the wikipedia page cites as their example of an electoral monarchy.) SO, all-in-all, I guess I'm wrong, but I still hold a strong bias against a monarchical style of government.

No worries :). If you're American then chances are you're not too fond of Monarchies lol. (I'm in California, just FYI)
