I'm talking about imbalances from OP weapons, in particular, dude, because his argument for capping gear is clearly based on them being too good to exist alongside current stuff. We're not talking about patches and stat balancing; we're talking about capping LIGHT LEVELS, and you wouldn't leave gear behind because it sucked. I'm fully aware of underpowered gear being an issue for the game as a whole, but that has nothing to do with capping Light Levels, because that does nothing to address weak gear; that's what patches are for.
And I'm not stupid- obviously, endgame Crucible involves Light Levels, but it's still a very small fraction of the PvP side of things, whereas I'm talking about the issue from an overall perspective.
Let me clarify my points-
1. OVERPOWERED gear has no negative effect on PvE, because it's cooperative; only PvP is negatively affected because it's competitive.
2. Leaving old "overpowered" gear behind by restricting their LIght Levels does nothing to address their use in 90% of PvP activities, yet fully removes them from any meaningful PvE activities, despite the fact that (as shown in point #1) there is no reason for it.
Don't get me wrong; if weapons are too egregiously overpowered, I believe they should be addressed at some point in time, but with patches! Punishing PvE players needlessly for the sake of PvP is ridiculous, especially because it doesn't actually solve the majority of PvP, anyway. :P
