It was actually linked to your three characters.
I had three Titans and deleted one a week before TTK came out (I wanted to make a hunter to get the Grimoire cards). I was lucky though that my other two characters had also done enough to qualify between them.
I had to wait until I was given the emblem and then I deleted one more to make a warlock.

I got the email to get the emblem but thought nothing of it and deleted it made a new hunter one week into ttk and like I said it was the only character I'd done skolas on I've even got the shader but it doesn't matter my dumb luck
