Shooters do not treat there weapons the same. They usually play around with the stats to draw guns to players. Even with a meta in FPS there are people who can whip out a weapon in which it appeals to them and still have a relevant fun time with them. Of course I am talking about PvP in other games. If you look at the the FPS genre as a whole you will see that the system in place for the weapons pertains to the niche of the game. What Destiny is trying to do is bring the system of MMOs into a FPS feel/gameplay. Because of this Bungie has the tough job of finding the balance, feel, fun factor, progression, etc. of this hybrid game.
