Chapter 16: The Kell's Demise (part 2)
Finding himself in a hallway, Lyzel pulled out his hand cannon. His Ghost teleported to his side, and switched on its light, illuminating the dark room. A loud hum emanated from large machinery, including strange pistons and cylindrical vats.
The Hunter looked around, following the hum of hydraulic pumps, and the whir of great engines. Before too long, he found himself looking out into an open room, large metal pipes running along its floors. Realizing he had found the cross-section for the fuel lines to the engines of the Ketch, Lyzel devised an infallible plan.
“What are you doing?” his Ghost inquired.
“Making sure that bastard and his throne go down,” Lyzel replied, jumping to the ground and looking for key points to set down tripmine grenades; which were to be remotely detonated. He looked around to make sure there were no other Fallen.
Moving on from the engine room, he followed a long, winding corridor, which led to a flight of stairs. Atop the stairs was a door, which was painted in a different scheme than the usual Charcoal gray of the rest of the Ketch, and Lyzel assumed this was where his target was.
Walking slowly up the stairs, Lyzel made sure his weapons were reloaded and that his grenades were primed. A million thoughts swirled in his head as he climbed one step at a time. As he reached the door, he pictured the face of his beloved, Ashley, and boldly stepped through the veil.
Lyzel entered the throne room, looking around, gun drawn. The room was empty though; there were no Fallen at the control consoles, no Servitors scanning the room, no Kell in an empty throne.
Calmly, yet cautiously, the Hunter strode into the room, his finger on his trigger, “So this is the throne room of Kell Rorixias, Conqueror of Venus.” He chided.
His remark was met with silence, and he looked around, analyzing every detail of the room.
Ghost spoke through Lyzel’s helmet, “There’s nothing here, Guardian, and I’m not picking up any sign of life…”
Cursing, Lyzel walked up to the foot of the throne. Looking behind him, he thought he heard the scuffle of cloth against metal, and he turned to the door whence he came, the barrel of his hand cannon held steady. His mind was on high alert, his hears attuned to the faintest noise.
There was silent movement behind Lyzel though, and a shadow-cloaked figure towered over the Hunter. Its arms held a spear and raised it high, preparing to impale the unsuspecting Guardian.
Ghost’s robotic voice pitched, “Look out!”
With a roar, the Kell slammed his spear down with a force powerful enough to rumble the ground. In the split second, Lyzel managed to leap forward, narrowly dodging the attack and rolling along the metal floor, inflaming his cracked ribs.
There was a flash of darkness as Lyzel looked up, and a sinister laugh echoed off the walls. Standing up, he aimed his gun at the dancing shadows, but his bullets bounced off them.
“Show yourself, Creature of the Dark!” Lyzel shouted. He continued to scan the area, but nothing came at him.
The Kell laughed, an evil and metallic sound, like grating knives, “Leave this place, Light-Wielder, or doom yourself to wrath of Rorixias.”
Lyzel stopped walking, “So you do speak our language?”
The Fallen Kell chuckled, his voice echoing in the empty room, “Yes, I know your people’s tongue, boy. You Light-Wielders defy our intelligence, as well as our might, in the hopes that you will win.”
A shadow flickered on the wall, “But you cannot stop the inevitable defeat of your race, nor can you replenish your loss, as I’m sure you already know.”
Lyzel glanced at his torn cape, reminding him of his own personal loss at the hands of this monster, an anger taking over him. Before he could think, an explosion of Darkness flashed behind him, and he felt the force of the Fallen Kell send him sprawling.
Recovering from the blow, Lyzel turned and fired three rapid shots from his hand cannon, all aimed at the charging Kell.
Rorixias anticipated the attack and disappeared in a ball of shadow, reappearing behind the surprised Hunter. With a roar, he slammed his spear into the ground, releasing a burst of energy from it.
Lyzel barely managed to jump into the air, dodging the wave of energy. Turning while airborne, he threw a blazing knife at the Kell, piercing him right in the chest.
Growling at the knife that was lodged in him, Rorixias threw his spear. The tip of the blade caught Lyzel’s cape, the force lifting him off his feet and pinning him to the throne.
Lyzel shook off his daze, swiftly rolling out of the charging Kell’s path, tearing a small piece of his tattered cloak. The huge Fallen slammed into the throne, toppling it. A guttural sound came from the Kell, and he teleported again, this time reappearing in front of the Hunter and picking him up in his firm grasp.
Lyzel screamed out as The Kell’s grip nearly broke another rib, a great deal of pain pulsing out from his chest. With a yell, he drove a knife into Rorixias’ hand, dropping to the floor. Ignoring the pain, he stood and stuck a tripmine to the Kell’s chest, the explosion knocking the Kell back, to the edge of the walkway behind his throne.
Rorixias roared at the Hunter, and grabbed his spear from the ground, beckoning for the Guardian to challenge him.
Taking the challenge, Lyzel ran at the Kell, yelling in defiance.

Edited by thefirebirdguy: 10/17/2015 10:20:46 PMLyzel seems similar to how I feel my guardian would be. Except I think mine would be a bit more old fashioned. Uses almost exclusively tex mechanica stuff. Gunslinger hunter. Sort of a gruff, cowboy-esque guy. I've called him Sptifire-17 since the beta. Anyhow, on topic, great writing. Can't wait to see where this goes.
my personal back story is that he was a co-founder of tex mechanica, who holds one of the first curse prototypes and has been away from the tower for a long time, after leaving the company. His weapons of choice are the said hand cannon, a worn vanguard sniper, and a stolen suros rocket.
