The remaining guards were helpless when it happened. All the death, and loss, it finally got to her. By the time we'd responded to the alarms in the Hall of Heroes, everything regarding Genesis was either gone or destroyed. Later when we checked the database, everything regarding Genesis had been wiped. It was like they'd never existed. More alarms blared near the escape pods. My squad ran, trying to stop the mystery thief. As we turned the corner, rounds riddled every body but mine. An angry, female, British voice spoke out to me, the only survivor.
"Don't try to find us. We deserve to be left alone. If you try, or send anyone... I'll let you use your imagination."
She riddled my legs with rounds, perfect in precision, but not enough to kill me. I lied in pain as she closed the door of her escape pod, hearing one singular gunshot, and a clash of something to the floor. The pod warped away before I could react.
To this day I know the only reason I'm alive is to tell this story.
