Lurking Evil
An open tundra, plains for miles, the only limit; the horizon. The sun had just risen, it's brilliant display of clouds like fireworks turning to their original white and blue, birds fluttering across the sky. The moist smell of moss, and other minor algae's reach your nose, the still waters covered in layers of dark green. You need a drink, and you bend down to a clear pool; the crisp, cold water tickling your throat, chilling your insides, quenching your thirst. Standing up, the foreverness of the land is stunning; how empty, flat, and featurless the plains were, the only landmarks being small pools and streams running along the ground.

After a day of travel, you spot a huge tree from hundreds of kilometres out, your destination. It's giant tendrils, roots burrowing from the ground, seem to bulge from the ground even now. It's green canopy was obviously larger than a city, the main stem reaching up into the sky's nothingness, striking the air as if reaching for the heavens. Your courage reaching peak, finally seeing the finish line, the safe haven, you embark ever faster towards the behemoth of an organic.

3 days, and you're almost there; one day left of travel. Your stocks are low, angry, cranky, hungry, irritable. But that all gets tosses aside with one look at the tree, the supposed safe haven of the New Order. There you'd find food, shelter, and a new life. It's allure tempted you to travel through the night, and so you did, attempting to walk the remaining 50km at once. As the sun fell below the horizon, it's display amongst the clouds was breath-taking.

Over the last few nights, however, you've been hearing strange noises, dismissing it as the growing of the huge roots that now dominated the ground. But as you walked the uneven terrain, the sounds were more prominent than ever, seemingly calling you to investigate. It was a strange hum, the rumble of something - or things - moving, coming from underground. Your foot falls into a rather deep hole, and as you pull it out, small threads like silk tickle your skin, as you wipe them off, sticking to the ground now. Fearful, for the darkness carries many nightmares, you move on without looking. Dare you continue to move on? Or turn heel and flee, never to complete your journey?
