It screamed once more before jumping down at Deciever, legs extended, ready to impale him on the ends of it.
-
I roll right, flinging explosive knives at the spider
-
It exploded, gore and acid spattering everywhere as the knives hit it's underbelly. Deciever heard the slow hissing of more acid... 5 more stood atop another ridge, not hesitating to start giving chase. His only chance would be to gain high ground, and escape from the trench he found himself in.
-
I look around for a high point, and see a hill, sprinting towards it
-
The baels, as they're called, sprint alongside you, not attacking but watching; observing your movements as their rigid legs click with every contact. They jump up around the hill, seemingly inviting you up.... take the hill and risk a trap, or make your way to an occupied one, fighting for a safer spot?
-
I mutter "Never was smart." I turn around with a handful of knives
-
The baels start surrounding you, 7 of them, but you're no longer enclosed in a trench like area of roots; the area is open, but riddled with deep trenches and high roots rebelliously rising into the air. Two jump at Deciever, fangs bared.
-
I fling two handfuls of explosive knives at them, and then roll between them, drawing a large knife
-
Again, gore flies as the explode, the remainder of their abdomens flopping where you had just been. The rest started to advance, more replacing thrm at the edges; an undying tide of arachnids.
-
I look for a way out
-
The cluster seems superbly reinforced at the front... but running back would take you farther from the safe haven. They seem to be closing around you like a "U", and will soon clamp down and devour. They seem weaker on the left side... smaller baels with fewer numbers. Choose wisely.
-
I run at the left side, and use a baels head to propel myself through the air, trying to jump over the mass
-
Deciever succeeds, jumping over almost all of them, as you break into a sprint towards the tree. The baels follow closely, not giving up yet; one glimpse behind him would reveal masses of them, too many to count. It was... nightmarish.
-
I puff "Fûck... This... Stupid... Planet..."
-
Deciever still runs, but the baels stop giving chase as he nears the tree. Had he... made it? Not quite, frankly. A bael twice the size of the others, an elder bael, climbs from the ground, it's fangs clicking. It's quite far still, but it stands in between you and safety.
