From the article- To early players, and even to those who stuck with the game for the long haul, playing Destiny felt like battling against the developers themselves [...] "The only point you have to deliver on is that when people leave your game—because they will—when they leave your game, they need to be happy"
Almost all of my gamers friends have quit Destiny cold turkey thanks to TTK, and they sure as hell didn't leave happily. Like OP says, I didn't grind my ass off in Year 1 for the sake of grinding; who the hell does that? No, I did it because I was under the impression that- given the ASTRONIMICAL amount of time players needed to put into obtaining and leveling gear- the rewards of my grinding would be worthwhile, and lasting, given the whole motiff of "Becoming Legend." I spent MONTHS chasing after specific weapons and armor, but I didn't mind because, again, surely the game would respect and validate my commitment as a fan, right? Wrong. Instead, my whole 600hrs of time spent grinding in this broken and unfinished game that I wanted to love mean literally nothing going forward. And, since the gear from Year 1 is 100% worthless, even the activities I paid for (the ones that haven't been locked from me, that is) are completely worthless, because there is no longer any reason to do them. Tell me again what my $100+ was for? And, now, Bungie thinks they're gonna sucker me into to putting another 300-400hrs playing this game for more ultimately worthless gear? Yeah, not gonna happen.
