@Traveler making a stand. I agree with almost everything in that post, until here. Traveler certainly wants us to have good times, but it always left when things got hairy. Why would he do otherwise for us? Traveler was and is cowardly with his Gift Mast, why would he risk it for us? Because Rasputin used something that made the Traveler use his Light to give off a giant Sonic Boom (to push back the Darknezs and its messenger in Oryx) and fall asleep for a long time. That fits in both theories, and for me it's plausible.
Also. Muse - The Handler perfectly fits with this story, Handler = Rasputin, singer = Traveler.

Too vague. And "Unless you are being pushed". By Rasputin, perhaps?

Where would Rasputin be pushing the Traveler? The Dreams of Alpha Lupi are from the PoV of the Traveler talking to/about its last self

Pushing may be as "pushing out" or "pushing to do something". Rasputin may be pushing Traveler to hold his horses and do a Sonic Boom. And Dreams of Alpha Lupi are what Speaker tells us from perspective of the Traveler, it might be a lie/exaggeration/misinterpretation/embellishment.
