In someway he's good but not pure good since his intentions is to use the races he finds to defeat the darkness.
From what I've read everytime the darkness reaches him and he sees the race can't defeat it then he moves on. Each time he moves on it hopes that the darkness start to get weaker.

Yes, neither darkness or traveler are good, the traveler would have left if not for Rasputin stopping it, read earlier grimoire someone linked, and although the darkness has definitely done worse things, neither side really fights for good. Another thing I noticed is that It seems as though the worms from the book of sorrow will eventually kill their hive hosts after they have taken over the universe and then they will be the only power left. Based of course on the hive philosophy of kill until you are the last standing. The one thing oryx never though about is if he is the most powerful then why doesn't he kill his worm?
