Reasoning? Is it just easier to conceal or for agility purposes?

Blades are a lot lighter on the hips, you know me being small if I had to carry around a big ol sword I'd be dead in two minutes

You make a good point. Ever tried stealing the blade from one of a Guardians weapons? The one on my Touch of Malice is pretty light.
