In regards to this "Oryx Cheese"
Pushing Templar off=Cheese
Pushing Atheon off=Cheese
Having 1 man cross bridge=Cheese
Preventing Crota from standing up=Cheat
Using only 1 orb at golgoroth=Strategy
Not killing ogres at a particular time=Strategy
People are soo quick to throw out the word "cheese".......
We didn't end up using this strategy when we defeated oryx, always had a guy die on the way up.
We found an easier way where we had a titan floating with a blessing bubble in the middle between platforms with mallace.
Whoever didn't have to jump on pillar that cycle would join him in the middle to pop in and out of bubble melting ogres as they spawned.
Doing this along with some shots from the people on the pillars took down the ogres quick.
This gives plenty of time for they guys to turn and snipe their knights.
Runner should be saying that he has the relic by that point,
Everyone heads to middle, takes out vessel and shoots oryx.
Stagger, detonate bombs return to middle, shoot at his chest.
Rinse and repeat.
When you get teleported, if you can pop a blessing bubble it helps with the shade swinging.
Also an optional tip...having 1 guy run up to start the fight while the team stays back between platforms. Don't shoot the thtalls, you can let them come to you and bunch up. Hit them with a tether if you have a hunter. Once tethered, kill them all creating plenty of extra orbs for when needed.

It's not a cheese! Glad there are still some competent people on these forums... It's a clever way to beat oryx, but it still takes hours even with the "no knights" strategy.

3 RepliesI agree that it's a strategy. If you DPS the shit out of a boss because a next wave of adds spawn if you don't kill him, are you avoiding a game mechanic? I'm damn sure not going to say, "wait, don't kill him yet... Bungie wanted us to fight these adds!" Killing something to avoid adds is the same as not killing something to avoid adds. But to each his own.

I agree strategy. Two hundred years ago we used to go into war lined up wearing bright red....god I hate the Camo cheese. Don't get me started on putting pilots at risk over enemy territory with the predator drone cheese. Bloody cheesers not running mindlessly into battle.

5 RepliesTrue, you are still playing the raid mechanics using this method. It is actually quite brilliant. I also don't think it is easier in most cases, but if you are short a man or have underleveled players it does make sense.

Bungie has given us a fight with a multitude of conditions to meet and tools to do so with. Nowhere did bungie tell us how to do this fight. They did that because they want to see how the community adapt and evolves strategies. Middle balcony strat for dark below raid? Probably not what they intended, but it used the mechanics in a fair way. It didn't trivialize the fight. And when it came time for bungie to run the raid? They did the middle strat lol. This is another option for the raid and for some people it's not even easier. How the hell are people saying this is a cheese

I wouldn't consider it a cheese, we tried it yesterday and it wasn't easier in my opinion. After an hour of try and error we were doing it the normal way...

I get so tired if these crybabies who scream cheese. They automatically assume the way something is first beaten is the ONLY way it can ever be done. If people want linear, go play Mario brothers. It's getting to the point where games MUST be played a certain way or its cheating, or simply not "fun".

1 ReplyMy first run I beat it we did it the normal way. My second run we tried this strategy. This is definitely not a cheese. There is no rule that says you have to kill ogres at a certain time, just have to be down so you can ignite the lights to damage oryx. This strategy is still difficult, I was the runner in my group and when I grabbed the Aura I would have 2 ogres waiting for me right next to the vessel. The people on the platforms had to deal with the ogres and trying to stay alive. Everything has to still be perfect and is still about timing and communication.

I agree, just because it's a different strategy from when we are used too.. doesn't make it a cheese, especially since there is no exploiting of any sort, glitching or anything. its a shift in movement.

Those ogres are pro snipers. Then on top of that you gotta shield yourself from getting hit by oryx. The tomb ship that thing will kill you even if you try to jump OVER it.
