Pushing Templar off=Cheese
Pushing Atheon off=Cheese
Having 1 man cross bridge=Cheese
Preventing Crota from standing up=Cheat
Using only 1 orb at golgoroth=Strategy
Not killing ogres at a particular time=Strategy
People are soo quick to throw out the word "cheese".......
We didn't end up using this strategy when we defeated oryx, always had a guy die on the way up.
We found an easier way where we had a titan floating with a blessing bubble in the middle between platforms with mallace.
Whoever didn't have to jump on pillar that cycle would join him in the middle to pop in and out of bubble melting ogres as they spawned.
Doing this along with some shots from the people on the pillars took down the ogres quick.
This gives plenty of time for they guys to turn and snipe their knights.
Runner should be saying that he has the relic by that point,
Everyone heads to middle, takes out vessel and shoots oryx.
Stagger, detonate bombs return to middle, shoot at his chest.
Rinse and repeat.
When you get teleported, if you can pop a blessing bubble it helps with the shade swinging.
Also an optional tip...having 1 guy run up to start the fight while the team stays back between platforms. Don't shoot the thtalls, you can let them come to you and bunch up. Hit them with a tether if you have a hunter. Once tethered, kill them all creating plenty of extra orbs for when needed.
Hope this was helpful.

Wow 1000+ replies, for the most part, a lot of really good points have been pointed out..

It's not a cheese. I don't know why everyone keeps saying you're ignoring a game mechanic because you really aren't. When you kill the orge you still have to deal with the knights trying to kill people sitting in the blight. I'll pretend for a moment that you're ignoring a mechanic (you're not). Where did Bungie say how and when to kill light eater knights? <<<that's a rhetorical
-
people should raid as intended and not suck at the game *takes cover*

Edited by Maliketh, the Black Blade: 10/26/2015 3:41:54 PMThis is cheese to the same extent that the mid ledge in Crota was cheese. Or using the relic to cleanse in Templar and ignoring the Oracles. Edit for clarity: Cheese to the extent of these things... which aren't cheese.
-
Beat heroic twice in about an hour and half of attempts. I tried this strategy of negating the light eater Knights and we never finished after an hour and a half. Doing it normally is easier. Less people die
-
Agreed, the "one orb" strategy for golgoroth is just that, a STRATEGY...the only penalty being having to clear ads again... As for Oryx, unless it completly bypasses a mechanic, it's not a "cheese" method
-
Me and my fire team of low levels did it the same way
-
Agreed. All tho preventing Crota from standing up wasn't a cheese. It was glitching. Down right cheating....
-
At the end of the day Bungie decides how people play their game. If they want to they'll patch it. Until then I am not going to care how people do it.
-
Agree
-
Seriously. Like do people even know what cheese means anymore. Jesus
-
Bungie already commented on this start saying they thought of this before and wanted to see how long before people find out
-
It's not a cheese, I tried it with a group of randoms and it was more difficult than the normal startegy, did it twice the normal way.
-
You're bypassing having to worry about Light Eater Knights. It's a cheese. Just like the bubble strat on Crota to avoid the Wizard. That was a cheese. Pushing Atheon off was an exploit and a cheese. Perma kneeling Crota was an exploit and a cheese. Gjallahorn on Skolas with Solar Burn was a cheese because you bypassed the ads and taint.

Edited by Sweeps_234: 10/26/2015 1:03:29 PMSo, by your logic, if my fireteam doesn't die 6 times at Golgoroth, then that's a cheese because we are skipping the Totem mechanic.
-
I really feel like people use this strategy simply because they don't know how to shoot or lack power. There's no reason an average 310 light team shouldn't be able to do the fight normally. The only excuse is people don't know how to shoot, what to shoot and when to shoot it. Seriously.... apply that right trigger use a little brain power. The minute call outs stop people seem to go brain dead.

I would like to think the designers knew the community would find alternative ways to defeat oryx and other bosses in the raid then the one specific way they intended. Granted pushing the boss off the edge isn't not one of those ways. However planing when to eliminate certain targets seems like a completely legitimate strategy. Kudos to the ones who created these strategies. I would love to see more come out of the oryx fight. It will only give the developers better feedback for creating better raids in the future.
-
You can lag the warpriest like crota
-
You're avoiding an aspect of the raid by exploiting a method that was not intended. It's a cheese.
-
In no way is this a cheese. It's a great strategy, if you don't want to do it, then don't do it
-
"In a gaming scene the word cheese is used to describe strategies or ways of playing that are really powerful and do not require much skill from the players side at the same time." so, cheese then.
-
Edited by Jailbot5612: 10/26/2015 12:38:34 PMIts a great STRATEGY
-
Thanks for telling these kids the truth. Spot on post.
-
Just a question. I have defended your view on its not a cheese or cheat. But who said it's the correct time and place to kill the orges? Plus this is what happens when you place a mmo type game (usually well played on pc) on consoles.
-
It bugs me how people call different methods cheeses... Learn that your way isn't the only way.
-
Mad console kiddies be salty cos they dont know the difference between a strategy, a cheese and a cheat lol

Cheese: doing something outside the standard mechanics Exploit: finding a hole in the game and abusing it Strategy: using the most logical method of the mechanic to your needs. Examples of cheese: Sending a Hunter up to solo the abyss and jump on a rock. Sending one guy to solo the templar oracles part while the rest stay up. Examples of exploit: Pushing bosses off the ledge Pulling the lan cable out Examples of strategy: Not stopping the templar from teleporting, and staying right to cleanse when you don't kill an Oracle Going invis through the abyss to not worry about adds One/two orb method on Golgoroth
