I, your target consumer, was just about to give you my money.... but I'm not sliding down that slope with you and I'm done next step you take.

The Festival was a fantastic, fun surprise. The decorations and the soundtrack straight from the "spooky graveyard" record from the halloweens of my childhood made me laugh. The masks are ridiculous, superfluous fun. If this was the kind of thing that the Eververse is funding, I thought, I'm willing to support that. I'm an adult professional with a career that affords me the disposable income to Throw Money At The Screen if the whim takes me, and not think twice. But I'm not giving you a damn cent if it gives me a leg up on a player without the funds. And what is in those treat bags? Grind-skipping candy. It is such a tiny leg up, but it is one. They do the same things as telemetries, or wax idols, or ether seeds, and those drop for everybody so easily. They're not the value of buying those packages. I can't imagine anybody buying silver to get those. But they're a tiny step down that slippery slope you REPEATEDLY PROMISED you weren't headed down. So soon? So gosh darned soon you're sliding toward pay-to-win? Pay-to-skip-the-grind? Nope. Not buying a single sliver of silver. And if you offer another advancement tool for silver, I'm done on principle.

  • What do you mean? Everyone got a mask and was able to get the. Treats free. You don't need any silver. I got multiple bags and xp bonus things that worked fine without it. No where did using silver boost? What to buy more bags? For glimmer? We get that anyway.

    • One thing I learned from my father, don't make empty threats. Be ready to back up what you promise. Bungie is headed down that path; too much time and effort went into what they propose as an altruistic move - something decidedly NOT Bungie. Nothing is for free, and if they can pull a few more dollars from you, they will. As Luke Smith said, "it's up to the customer to decide the value". (Translation: we'll do it if we want to, and the customers can stay or leave.)

I remember people on this forum swearing up and down that Bungle would never, ever, ever sell anything that would affect gameplay in any way, shape, or form whatsoever, that everything sold for silver was and always would be purely cosmetic, and that anyone who thought differently was a paranoid conspiracy theorist who needed help from a mental health professional. To anyone who said the microtransactions would always be purely cosmetic: no matter how you rationalize this latest step, you were wrong. And you owe sincere apologies to everyone you insulted. PS. Told you so.

While I understand your concern, I do not believe this should cause extreme alarm. A wary eye, yes. Full blown panic, not so much. First, the candy is only here for as long as the event is up. Pretty piss poor way to spend your money if that is your sole purpose of obtaining Tess' bags. Second, the more likely reason you are purchasing these bags is for the Paper Glue (from dismantling the Legendary Mask) or the chance at the Flaming Skull Mask. Both of which do absolutely nothing for your Light Level. From an analytical standpoint, the bags orbit the same concept and principle of the emotes.

          • Motes of light do the same thing these candy do and btw it's ridiculously easy to fill up the candy bag so yeah. I did one strike and filled up an empty bag. I got candy from this without ever paying for anything. Um I don't see what your yelling about

Your post is like depression & paranoia and not in a Tim burton way. Not giving away $ for stupid masks and dances is pro gaming, apparently And to educate you, every single online game that came out most likely had grind boosting perks for real $. Nothing new nothing special nothing game breaking considering how long it takes to hit max in Destiny. My god, destiny is not some top elite game where people work years for 1 light level. Just stop embarrassing yourself and go take a break. (But I agree that bungie is jumping shark with these lame buy silver stuff, all of us have seen these tricks and know it well it won't be p2w but it will be annoying)

I see where your coming from, but the progression given to players by purchasing the goodie is very minuscule, and is only for the timed holiday quests. It would be a waste of money for anyone who thinks it through. The real reason why anyone would buy the goodiebags with irl currency would most likely be for the aesthetically oriented masks that offer no sort of power up to the guardian (Infact, masks make guardians weaker lol). So in the end, I think it would be very nitpicky to look at this as an advance to a frightening microtransaction-future rather than just a small cashgrab-y option Bungie has given us.

              • I said this as soon as the emotes were released. I said it was just a test to see what they could get away with. Next month they'll be selling guns and armour.

I appreciate people who follow their own principles. So do I. My principle is, in this particular regard, Destiny is a game and I like to play it. I even like to play it if someone can level his armor quicker than me. Regardless of him/her having spent money. I, simply spoken, do not give a damn rats ass.

Stick to your guns as anyone should. For me I think it's fun to have a mask like the blue skull and its the first silver I have bought. The legendary mask takes my Titan from a 302 to a 272 so its really for fun only. The candy and glue and whatever is a small thing for the event. After Halloween it will not impact the game in any way so IMHO its OK. I have two choices for the real Halloween. I can make my son a Halloween costume for free or buy him one. Still going trick or treating either way. I bought my destiny costume and after Halloween its nothing but good memories. I think that is the point of the festival, and I am having a blast and so is my son. We buy games to have fun. Everyone should do what they feel is right. I feel like not worring about what Bungie might do or how this or that could lead into a bad thing. It's a game and that's way too much thought. It's a game. I have been saying this to my team. " Please stop sweating the quests and bounties and just shoot things. Let's get back to having fun. Period. "

                    • First post complaining about this that I'm obligated to agree. The part where they have control over how much you have to grind for something and then introduce a way for you to pay to skip that part bothers me beyond belief. I'm waiting for the moment they start to sell weapon parts --something that they've reduced the drop rates a lot-- for Silver, if that happens, arrivederci. Let's see how that rolls out. I doubt the penguins at Bungie/Activision will be able to control themselves for much longer. All I can do for now is refrain from buying silver and hope I'm terribly wrong.

I love how but a few weeks ago DeeJ said something to the effect of the Eververse never being a "Pay-To-Win" deal. Fast forward to Monday, and what do we see? A "Pay-To-Advance" model implemented. Is it Pay-To-Win? Nope - just Pay-To_win's dumb cousin... And I see all the Youtubers wasted no time dropping their twitch donated dollars right into Tess's inventory - nothing like seeing a tower full of mask wearers doing the thriller dance and parading around the fact that they do not give two sh*ts about the direction Bungie is going with this Eververse crap... I said this weeks ago when Bungie first brought Tess back: they were walking a very, very fine line with this microtransaction crap. It looks like, at this rate, we won't have long to see the "Pay-To-Win" model implemented...

                          • It's all cosmetic and it doesn't effect the overall experience. Don't understand how people don't understand this. You want that blue skull that's JUST cosmetic? Cool! Grind for it or you can buy it! Regardless, you can't go into the raid with it. That thriller emote?! If you all dance at the same time during the oryx fight oryx joins in. Enjoy your Halloween people and don't eat sour candy
