Something called a fresh start with people not constantly keeping behind their favorited weapons. Bungie wants people to branch out and try new things, and with HoW they saw that didn't happen because everyone was too busy comparing the new weapons to the old, so much so that the strengths of the new weapons weren't given the proper use. Plus it made gameplay bland, joining either strikes or crucible everyone constantly used the same thing. It's nice to have diversity every once in a while.

  • There isn't any diversity in y2 either so lol..PvP is conspiracy theory - d and hawksaws. This game will never have diversity because there is always a group of weapons that are much stronger

It's nice to have diversity every once in a while.
...dude, are you seriously saying that you think TTK has more diversity than HoW? First off, you can't force "diversity." Even in TTK, Infusion or not, there are still weapons/gear that are overused/overpowered compared to others; and that will always be the case. No matter how many weapons you put out there, players will always gravitate towards the best options, without fail. Replacing the previous dozen-or-so "top" weapons with a new set of a dozen-or-so "top" weapons is NOT diversity. It's just different. :P

  • Except I haven't seen a small group of weapons rise above another (Pulse Rifles seem to be getting there but that's another topic). You can't force diversity but you can cause weapons to have the same general effectiveness, where there are some strengths but some weaknesses to compensate for. So far, Bungie has actually done something about that with Taken King, and I hope it's not going to become ruined.

Leaving Year 1 behind has nothing to do with it, as evident by the fact that Crucible is more balanced than ever, even though players can use literally every possible weapon in the game (aside from Engame PvP, of course). I'm not saying that Year 1 didn't need to be balanced; I'm saying that it already WAS. If gear is more balanced than ever in PvP, then it should stand to reason that it would also be balanced in PvE. :P

  • No. People didn't use the HoW weapons because(other than a few stand out exotics) they were terrible. The stat balance and perks were horrendous. They gave us crap weapons and then wondered why noone used them? The same goes for the new 2.0 weapons. There are a few really decent weapons, but none made me feel like my Hard Light or Word of Crota or even Gally. They just don't give you the same "wow factor" that the year one weapons did.

  • That's the problem, you are comparing them to your old weapons, don't do that. Comparisons ruin everything, something is always better in some way. Look at a gun for its strengths as its independent model, don't compare it to some old thing you had, you aren't giving something a fair chance unless you detach your opinions on older models.

  • No, he's comparing firefly to shank burn. HOW weapons were 2 situational. Hung Jury being a favorite shows that people like firefly more than most other perks. Plus an arc hand cannon was by far the best option for skolas with hordes of arc captains jumping in your face. I know for a fact I would be using more weapons if I had my old raid gear. There is no reason to switch primary's now.

  • There is more reason now than before. No way for people to cling to a weapon other than "they like it." A weapon like Hung Jury, which is a decent weapon, and other weapons like Hawksaw, a little on the OP side, are being used more often because the majority of players have to use the weapon that others define as best. And let's be honest, Firefly isn't that great of a perk. It has its uses, but not something that defines a gun. Hung Jury generally has decent stats even if the perks are meh, same with Hawksaw.

Why shouldn't I compare them? 9 out of 10 times whenever anyone buys anything they compare different products or compare to an experience they already had. Sure it'll be a great weapon to me if it's the ONLY weapon I've ever had. But if I have a really great weapon and the newer weapon sucks in comparison, I'll want to stick with my older, much better weapon. There is NO reason why I shouldn't compare. And that's why year 1 legendaries aren't ascendable. Because Bungie KNOWS that Y1 weapons were much better, but for some reason, they can't get their act together and code year two equivalents. It wouldn't be so painful leaving my Y1 weapons behind if they made Y2 weapons with stats and perks that didn't suck so much. Even the new raid weapons don't feel as good and I'm stuck using them right now because they have the highest light level in my arsenal. EDIT Example of my point: John has a match grade .45 caliber Colt 1911 made in the mid 1980's. It's a great gun and he's never seen a reason to get rid of it. Then Tom comes along and says he just got his first gun and it's the BEST gun on the market: a plastic frame, 9mm Hi-Point. Tom says to John that he needs to trade up because his gun is old and he needs to try out a new weapon. John takes Tom's gun to the firing range and tests it out and decides his Colt, his older weapon, still fits him better. Then Tom says, "But you shouldn't compare the Hi-Point to the Colt. Just look at the Hi-Point for what it is." You're asking me to give up my "Match grade Colt" for a plastic "Hi-Point". And then, just to force me to do so, Bungie ground the firing pin down so my Colt was useless.

Despite my focus on supporting old gear in all my posts, I'm not trying to disparage the new stuff. People keep telling me to "move on" and "find replacements" for my old gear, but I don't want replacements; I want something different! I want my options to grow. I've added new gear to my arsenal with every DLC, because each piece offered me something different. I was absolutely looking forward to adding awesome new TTK gear into my rotations... Not being forced to REPLACE all my gear entirely. :/

  • I feel the exact same way. I wanted a void scout soo bad. Scout rifles have always been my favorite and I thought I would finally have 3 different raid scouts to use. Nope, have less now than I did pre ttk.
