The only difference between the free and paid loot chest is that the paid comes with a legendary mask and has the paper glue as a possible drop. And, seeing as how glimmer is essentially useless at anything but the lowest levels, the pay-to-win argument has no ground upon which to stand. Engrams also drop it like it's hot, so you really don't have much of a reason to ever spend glimmer outside of more cosmetic items such as Sparrows and ships.
