A new brand of ninja justice?

It has come to my attention that the user Lost Sols has been banned again for the (what is it now?) time. This ban of course has sparked a new wave of people speaking about how Bungie is deliberately banning members like Sols for the most ridiculous reasons just to keep him quiet. Now these claims are actually quite worrying, especially as it is difficult to tell exactly what was wrong. The moderators do not usually supply a reason for a ban, instead leaving us with a vague "X has violated the Code of conduct". Now this alone makes it difficult to learn from, especially if all you know what you did wrong was something that that went against the CoC. Edit: So I made this thread originally due to rumours of corruption in the Ninjas. I also took the opportunity to mention a few ideas I had. Now this thread got Cozmo replied and everything, yet nothing has been done. Therefore my proposal is simple, with it covering two of the issues with the current system in place. The first issue is that there are claims that the Ninjas are abusing their power to silence critics of Bungie. The bad thing is that this is actually extremely possible for Bungie to do. The best suggestion to counteract this would be if Ninja's had some limits placed on them. For one they would have to actually place a more clearer reason why the person got banned. So instead of it just being "X violated the code of conduct." it becomes more like this;
User: X has been banned for a period of X days due to violating the code of conduct. The User violated the code of conduct's limitations of (random example) the offensive usage of curse words, specifically the "F" word.
Notice how this is much better? Because the fact is that the moderators actually have to supply a reason for the ban. It might be more work for the moderators, but it also allows people a chance to better realise exactly what they did wrong. My second suggestion is that the Code of conduct gets rewritten entirely. The entire code of it right now is vague and not clear enough, allowing too much room for misinterpretation. Yes I get it, the current version looks all nice and all but it is also extremely vague on what exactly is wrong. There has been cases before where people have used the CoC to justify name shaming for example, this of course caused the moderators to bite back. Now this would be end of usually, but the fact is that the vagueness of the rules actually allowed that little issue to stem in the first place. If Bungie had actually down specific rules for each separate misdeed along with a reason why it is forbidden, then there would be no misinterpretations. Edit: This thread has been replied to by the Community manager Cozmo. If you wish to read his reply then open the spoiler box below or just scroll down a bit.

User: X has been banned for a period of X days due to violating the code of conduct.
The entire code of it right now is vague and not clear enough, allowing too much room for misinterpretation.
It all comes down to not posting personal insults to other people here. That's the main thing that gets people in trouble. For the other stuff, the Ninjas have a guideline to help you out. So your second suggestion has already been put in place. It's not a comprehensive list of rules, but should help you out. • Bump, because even after a month Bungie still has not done one thing about these issues. The warnings are still vague, people are getting banned for the most rediculous things and it is still taking the mick.

      It seems some ninjas have a looser grasp on the CoC than others. Me and sols aren't cool anymore but... He gets banned for saying "blam you" But these two roam free? https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/167922046/0/0/1 Wow
"some ninjas have a looser grasp on the CoC than others." A ninja just wiped an entire thread for arguing with him https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/167808172/0/0 Edit: this said ninja also posted snide comments on a thread about Sols https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/167777683/0/0

          • He gets trolled hard by people who disagree with him. They sit there and endlessley report and flag everything he says. Ive argued with this same guy pretty harshly(one of his super haters) for almost a year haha, always about optional matchmaking. Weve hurled all kinds of crap at each other, except the last thing I said about him on a thread. Called him a mindless troll and for people to just mute him, he reported me enough that I got a warning from the Ninjas for insulting personally and not objectively lol. Meh, muted him. Hes prolly on this thread defending the "Ninjas against Sols" lol I dont flag or report anyone, if its bad enough the Ninjas take care of it.

            • I will say one thing, after seeing him getting banned a couple times now: I'm almost positive these bans are becoming biased as fućk because of what Sols has to say about the game, not exactly being positive about some of their mistakes. Oh well, not surprised.

                Well, given the answers he posted to those of us who disagreed with his stance on certain issues (more around the reasoning of buying TTK rather than the actual feedback suggestions he made), I am not surprised he got the ban hammer. I found some of his responses to be unacceptable considering how he always claimed he was some "beacon of guidance" for the community.

                • You know this Sols guy may have had some good points about Bungie's current business practices, but if he's continuously resorting to insulting of his fellow Guardians then he should not be welcomed here on these forums. Frankly I'm getting a bit worn out by these types of threads spawning every time he gets banned. For the sake of ridding the forums of these types of threads entirely, why not just perma-ban the guy and be done with it?

                  • If someone is getting banned again and again for the same thing (in this case, name calling, petty fighting, that kind of shit), don't you think that maybe the person in question should take a look at themselves and see if maybe they're proving to be a problem? Sols hasn't even been giving much negative feedback on the game lately anyways. It doesn't have anything to do with people targeting him he should really just not be name calling. Yes, other people get away with more more often, but they aren't a well known name. If you have a following you should set a good example.

                    As I understand it, he first must be reported by another member in order to gain the interest of the ninjas. From there, the Ninjas make a judgement based on the content of the reported submission. Should it fail to meet the standards of the CoC, it is removed/hidden. Repeat offenders receive suspensions/bans. Perhaps Sols should learn how to conduct a discussion without being disrespectful to others? On some topics I agree, and on others I may disagree, but overall I can't hold him in high regard. Generally he makes a good argument for his opinion, and words it well, but then in the comments, he turns into a completely different person. Anyone who digs deep enough can find examples of evidence. Which is normal. Trolls press the right buttons and it gets frustrating, but apparently he's "offended" the wrong people, and the reports/bans are flying. Personally, I believe we should be free to speak our minds, regardless of how vulgar or cruel our words may be. Toughen up, buttercups. Outside of spam/porn/death threats, why do we need rules restricting our speech? Oh yeah...
Content rated by the ESRB: T for Teen
Mute and hide users or the topics they post, it's that simple. If Sols is going to let others get to him then the Ninja justice is justified, even if it is against him. I like the guy, he brings up some very valid points. I however have learned that it is completely useless arguing with the trolls on here, and more often than not ignore them. Sols should probably try doing the same...

                      • Sols has no one to blame but himself. If he steered clear of the insults, profanity, etc. that the CoC prohibits he would be fine to be as loud as he could wish.

I believe he has broken the coc so many times he deserves a premature ban. Just my 2 cents.
