I was on the forums today and saw two posts specifically about holiday festivals in the Tower. There were two posts that generated quite a bit of controversy, one that called for a Christmas Festival and one that called for a Ramadan Festival.
After reading these posts I couldn't believe how hypocritical and backwards some people on the forums are. Most accept a Christmas festival but are absolutely offended by the mere thought of a Ramadan Festival.
Have we really fallen so far? Posting inappropriate phrases to bash the Islamic faith and making jokes about terrorism. It really is a shame.
Don't give me the cop out excuses of that Christmas is more commercialized and makes up the majority, those explanations are complete crap, not everyone wants to celebrate a holiday with Christian roots.
I for one don't even think that Destiny has any of the faiths we have presently. They praise the Traveler as their Savior and the Speaker is sort of the Pope to the people in a sense. I don't Christmas exists. I do, however, think that having a seasonal festival of some sort would be great
TL;DR
What justifiable reason can you give me for such a huge difference in opinion?
PS- for those that agree what do you think would be a good idea for a festival during the holiday season?
-
I don't think other religions are bad but Bungie would not do anything but core American holidays because Bungie is based in Seattle and a large part of their player base is American so they do not really know about the holiday.

Edited by SigmaRaptor: 10/29/2015 2:07:58 PMI couldn't care less. How about Viking festivals. Roman. Greek. Who gives a shit
-
And that's exactly why Bungie will never have a specific real world holiday celebrated in the Tower. No matter what, it will just make other people upset and mad at them. They couldn't even directly celebrate Halloween for god's sake because some people still think that it is the Devil's holiday. So they created the Festival of the Lost.
-
Why not just making festival of the giving? Or something that doesn't say anything about a religious celebration, like straight up say Christmas...
-
Why not just a Winter Festival or something ambiguous like that?
-
Dawn of Winter
-
I supported a brand new holiday to cap off the end of the year. Something for the awoken at the reef. Bringing an old holiday into the games lore won't make sense. Festival of the lost is similar to Halloween yes, But in game it is not Halloween.
-
I dont give a shit what were celebrating in the tower as long as everyone is having fun, what does it matter?
-
I just want a holiday festival.. maybe string up Christmas lights around the tower, have different consumables, snow on the tower, maybe a giant Christmas tree with fake exotic engrams at the bottom, a consumable that gives you a Santa hat and maybe even more masks? Quests and "empty stockings" that you can fill with candy and toys and bring to Eva. She can give you a reindeer mask, Santa hat, elf hat, snowflake, wrapped present, etc. Maybe put that big open space above the vanguard to use?? But also include other holidays for people of all religions to celebrate. And a Santa Easter egg that, when triggered, drops a legendary/exotic engram from a sleigh that flies off to the Traveler.

The world would be a better place without religion hahahaha
-
Edited by Infernal_jayed: 10/29/2015 1:29:29 PMBiggest reason is ignorance. Christmas is a holiday. Ramadan is just a month in the Islamic calender. Eid-ul-Fitr is the celebration after the month of fasting is over. Also Christmas is celebrated around the world secullarly(non-religious) as well. It's just safer to avoid religious holidays.
-
For some people it's almost on the level of the XBox/PS4 controversy. Humans are tribal and perceive difference as a threat.
-
I'm just waiting for people to bitch about we don't want a xmas festival event!! Then I'll grab some popcorn and wait for them to bitch about not getting anything for free from Bungie. Same can be applied to that if Ramadan. No matter what the festival is......... People gonna bitch about not getting or what they got as a "gift" from Bungie!!! Sad
-
There shouldn't be any controversy, but there is because the OP wanted there to be. The idea and purpose isn't to have a specifically Christmas festival or Ramadan or whatever, it's the idea of just having a fun event to enjoy in game. Christmas IS more commercialized so of course that makes sense, but who says it has to be called Christmas, this one isn't called Halloween. Celebrate a wi yet festival with snow, decorations, gifts, Santa or whatever. Enjoy the event in the spirit it's intended, something fun to enjoy and a little something different in the game, not so much some stupid controversy for no reason.
-
Just make a festival of a mixture of all holidays? Just for example the Winter Festival with gifts, candles, and whatever else. Regardless a Festival shouldn't cater to one celebration. And if it was one specific celebration, it would be American (hince Destiny being made in America...)
-
The media has a great way at warping our minds
-
That's why I like games that still have holiday festivals but make them work with the lore of the game. For example in Guildwars, around the winter holiday season they have the Wintersday Festival. It's kind of like a less religious Christmas and mixed with a slight groundhogs day tradition. (Two of the gods battle to descided if winter will be longer or not and gifts are also given.)
-
X-mas for life just an X on everything others.
-
Have a holiday, but make it something divorced from the partisan religious holidays we have now. Make it something in keeping with the Destiny game world that in this virtual environment, people apparently have gotten past religious or ethnic backgrounds and work together. Guess that's one highlight of an alien race wanting to eat your face...humans decide to work together.
-
Ramadan? Lol yea anything revolving around that evil religion will never be allowed so no worries!
-
Chrismas is not religious Ramadan is. No game will add a religious holiday. Burrrr
-
Most people have a lack of perspective. This is generally from not having enough life experiences. We've all been there at one time. When I was a teenager, I believed a lot of things that I'm not proud of now. The real problem with various holiday things is just the cost and lack of time. That's why it should be a general winter holiday celebration, not tied to any particular one, including Christmas. Or at least that's my opinion.
-
Sometimes people are narrow minded. To be honest, I hoped for a Christmas festival, too, and as I read your post, I tripped over myself forgetting that Christmas is only one of many religious festivals. But it's 'mine', and so it felt some kind of natural for me to only hope for Christmas. A neutral winter festival would be great. They could invent something unique, a festival only guardians would celebrate. So nobody had the right to complain he/she is excluded because of religion. I read really creative ideas here under your post, some relating to the house of winter, etc. It's cool that people make up their mind to think of solutions that might be interesting as a replacement for religious festivals. Well written post. I like you, sir.
-
Why don't they just do new years? No religion involved, simply the start of a new year. Or st. Patrick's day, all guardians walking around the tower and reef with pints of guinness and those stupid green leprechaun hats, that'd b fun
-
Edited by FlamingoSeeker: 10/29/2015 12:31:42 PMJust celebrate the new year. It's a new year for a lot of the world and has nothing to do with religion. In saying that, it's a game, there really isn't a need for a virtual festival, it's a want. Don't stress about it. Bungie will do what they want whether the whole community agrees or not.
-
Lets not make it a chrismas or a ramadan, it should be called a festival of the giving, and Bungie will give US all an exotic of our choosing free of charge
