Light, in Destiny isn't inherently goodness. If you haven't noticed, the Traveler is kind of a dick. It uses civilizations to fight it's enemy then runs away if there is a chance of losing.
They call it Light for its appearance. Not because it's "good".

Well now that it think about it we don't know wtf light is What is light anyway?
