Spent a good amount of time on release weekend on three different characters gearing up my Hunter to take Oryx HM down. Made some attempts with different strategies, lots of wipes and lots of learning. Buddy and I found a group Monday to try again, we were 312 and 310 by now, group was right around there, maybe a few 308-309. Banter and spirits were positive, criticism constructive. At Oryx it rapidly deteriorated to frustration and eventual eruption with questions of whether I understood the mechanics, if I was paying attention, that my only point in being there was not to die, why did I die, accusations left and right, unfounded. Explained what happened and tried suggesting multiple times ways to get ogre health lower and keep them closer to their spawns. With lack of any sort of reason from the group lead, we left. Frustrated and slightly defeated. I would not clear it this first weekend it released.
Went in for it again Tuesday, found a group that pushed through raid quickly but kept losing a player to connectivity. At Oryx we started to stall, but clearly the group was capable, nearly killing him in one of early attempts. About 30 minutes in, he was down, easy as can be, lead said it was his smoothest Oryx kill yet.
I changed nothing from Monday to Tuesday, the group, leadership and attitude did. Strategy was the same. Oh the irony, none of the group that blew up at me have emblems yet, and less than 24 hours removed from their rant, Oryx is dead. Supportive collaboration won over elitism and ignorance. The encounter is hard, gear will help, eventually we all will kill him countless times, have fun guardians.
