Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC.
Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse.
So that brings me back to my analogy.
The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately.
The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground.
But no. Not this community.
You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change.
I kry errytim.
Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for
Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift.
They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change.
I kry errytim
Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right?
NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE.
Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10.
Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE.
Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise.
You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny.
Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses.
Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect.
Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do.
Stop acting like there is nothing wrong.
Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game.
And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better.
For -blam!- sake.

This community is a crying child and Bungie is tired mother that just gives him what he wants
-
Let's be honest here kids. If they gave us Destiny, The Dark Below, House of Wolves & The Taken King all on release we would be sitting there with our head spinning still. Way way to much content overload. They create a good 2-3 years of the game straight up then slow release. This gives us time to complete everything and know that section backwards. There're not going to release all this content then chase there tails to get the next dlc out , no. They are doing things exactly as they should be.

Edited by Legion 87: 11/4/2015 1:21:17 PMLol, goddamn there are almost as many social justice warriors on the Destiny forums as Tumblr.... Just a game dude, Bungie is going to continue to do what it does... so if there is something more interesting to play in your opinion, go play it... but don't expect everyone on the game to drop off the map just so a "point" can be made...

I want to stop playing this game........ i probably will

Buy some ATVI [after the King acquisition settles in the next few days]. I got in at 19.50 in 2014. IRL profit. Feel good when you get down with all the zombies.

You forgot to mention they took sparrows out of the latest overpriced DLC ( Deadnaught ) to make it feel bigger. lol

Well the game is great , amazing and really addictive. I have spent alot of time on TTK ; more time than i spent on Advanced warfare ( 1 week) Sure people expect more and maybe Bungie could do more but it will cost money to make it. Also i feel like this forum has spoiled you. Bungie basically draged us online to get the most out of the game and no other game had previously done so . You also have Bungie emloyees read the forum posts and replying to it . Now you feel entitled to get what you want? Apply that to other games . COD ? Fifa? any EA game for that matter... GTA5 ? No other developer is in such close interaction with their fan base and changes things to please them. You know what else ? They never said that microtransactions will pay for future DLCs . They said its money to support the LIVE TEAM which would support the game by constantly realeasing new content . They did NOT however specify how extensive that content would be. Content along the Haloween theme thats going on right now or even future dlcs? Nobody knows and frankly i dont care. I have payed 15 euros for a few new maps on COD . Payed 50 euros for a seson pass to get maps and new skins for guns. It doesnt even compare to the dlcs that Bungie drops. Its a good deal. I havent bought another game since it realeased last year and i dont see myself buying another game until Gran Tourismo drops . Why? Because there is no racing in the game. Other than that the game delivers everything im looking for in a game. FPS and role play elements. Gimme a little more story (cutscenes) and that will be the icing on the cake.

Sorry to say, but it is a business practice Activision and Bungie both agreed upon. Activision knows this model (semi)works due to it being the same model as CoD. I don't really agree with it, but it is what it is. I don't buy CoD anymore as I find the game rather lacklaster, and dull. Why would I buy a game that doesn't interest me in the slightest? So, I speak with my wallet, but, that was back at BO2. I haven't bought a CoD since then and they made 3 games since.

Muted for basing your entire argument around 2 points 1) As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future. 2)Just -blam!- off and play something else, instead of playing the game then berating others for choosing to live differently to how you do, and creating another unoriginal topic And reported due to comparing a game to domestic abuse.

Edited by Cellspot: 11/4/2015 10:24:02 AMYou -blam!-ing idiot. Comparing a video game to domestic abuse? Your parents failed.

I totally agree and that's why I stopped playing. I used halo 5 as an excuse and am glad to say I've been off it for a week and all though I have temptations to jump back in her3 and there I can't put up with this anymore.
-
I'm just here till fallout 4, got nothing worth playing at the moment Can't justify paying any more money into this game
-
Edited by mrsjimmymare: 11/4/2015 11:26:25 AMI think we can all start by not buying the next dlc, don't support their microtransaction and also slowly cut down the time investing in this game. I say this because I'm doing this right now. :)
-
This is the best metaphor for this I have ever seen. You hit the nail on the head there
-
Don't bring logic round these parts!
-
I'd like to say I won't be buying another DLC, however I think the analogy you have used is pretty accurate. I for one feel like I've invested too much time into learning the mechanics and as a result feel too comfortable because I know what to do, when to do it and although I'm not a great player but I like being able to switch the PS on and just get on with playing. Moving to another game requires me to learn a new set of mechanics and get used to the feel of a game, in part my own laziness granted but it's more to do with the fact I think I will feel like I've wasted the money I have spent if I just give up on it.
-
I'm in agreement with many of your points, but I don't think there's really much we can do about it. If someone is making a lot of money in shady ways, they probably don't care about the opinion of the person they're getting money from.
-
Edited by Ridum1: 11/4/2015 12:07:12 PMHEz absolutely right and if you don't know it go play in your 'pretty little outfits and overpowered guns' and paid redundancy for what (sumof)you got 10x more of in Halo Reach... GROW up kids or keep throwing away your money for dress up games and DECEITFUL DEVELOPERS....

Edited by DXAshram: 11/4/2015 12:07:12 PMJust saying OP, Bethesda was also in collusion with Valve to throttle the mods community for their games by introducing paid mods and make huge bank off of other peoples' mods, under the guise of "We want modders to be paid for their work, guys! Never mind the massive cut we're taking from how much we'll make them charge for it!" But I agree, no one in this scenario is blameless. Bungie actively chose to partner with Activision, and their company has paid for it dearly. Only Harold Ryan has come out of this smelling like roses because he shills hard for Activision, and even then just barely after the Marty O'Donnell snafu.
