This community is a battered wife and Bungie is the abusive husband....

Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC. Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse. So that brings me back to my analogy. The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately. The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground. But no. Not this community. You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim. Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift. They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change. I kry errytim Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right? NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE. Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10. Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE. Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise. You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny. Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses. Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect. Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do. Stop acting like there is nothing wrong. Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game. And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better. For -blam!- sake.

  • The microtransactions are dances its not like there exotic weapons, ( well not yet) As others have said here also its not like your being forced to play or buy future destiny content hell every big game has microtransactions of some sort, counter strike, call of duty, battlefield 4, gta 5, assassins creed, last of us, the fact is publishers want more money as any company does however as said before its your choice to buy them period.

    • Agree a lot with this; and I love Destiny, but Bungie keeps making mistakes with it; rewriting the entire game and changing the entire story so that they could have a 10 year long franchise rather then a one off game (this is why so much content was cut in the first place, they didn't have the time to finish editing it, and now sell it back in small packets as they complete it). I paid $200 AUD for this game so did many others, but suddenly microtransactions, for $3-7? That's not "micro" at all, and yet it's a success? So much money put into this game you would think we would get regular updates, but no. Bungie doesn't even use their own forums to tell people about things that are going on, you would think it would be easy to just type something in and try to communicate with the forums and fix problems, but they don't. Sometimes they use twitter or Reddit to communicate, but never mention important things on the forum. Nechrochasm is released as a crock of $#!% everyone complains and Bungie admits fault, 2/3 or a year later and it's updated where it still isn't good enough for the effort it took to get it, and it lasts a week before it is rendered obselete, and no one complains? All this money and weapon balance patches come out every 4-8 months in a half arsed fashion (That one exotic is overpowered, nerf the entire type; everyone is using auto rifles which are short-midrange, nerf all autorifles and their ranges; individual weapons in are overpowered in a type, nerf them all, even the ones that are very underpowered) Raid rewards suck and I have failed to see Bungie properly respond to this. All these problems and people try to defend Bungie's practices of poorly thought out "balancing", rewards (or the lack of them I.E. poor gear that's difficult to acquire), unrewarding brutally long grinding, timegating exotics, poor communication, almost no patches for long standing problems, lack of updates, underpowered gear that somehow hold the "exotic" title, and much more: while charging us so much for DLC, expansion, and Macrotransactions (seriously a single one of the dances costs ~$8 AUD). If things don't start getting fixed I won't be coming back, nor pre-ordering anymore, and many probably feel the same. Bungie can't keep this up surely? People will catch on and refuse to buy more stuff until Destiny is fixed right?

    • Think about this analogy: i spent $120 at a fancy restaurant with my girlfriend last night. This morning i flushed that down the toilet. In reality, anyone over 10 years old should realize that thats not a massive amount of money. People like you are making it more than it needs to be

Been playing since day 1 and I can honestly say Destiny is still a subpar game. My biggest gripe being that story is still terrible(basically none at all). TTK did not fix the story problems to me. The story plays exactly like vanilla destiny. Cut scenes for the first 1/3 of the singleplayer then random quests after random quest. After you hit the Dreadnought it's vanilla destiny all over again. And alot of the exotic quest were terrible and halfass. Lets not forget timegated material. Don't mean to rant but yea Destiny is still a subpar game.

            • I more see it as a Cinderella story. Bungie and Activision are the evil stepsisters, and we are the prince running around with a glass slipper and every foot we try to fit it on is RNG.

I was a casual player and bit into the lore drama and got hooked; I don't plan on buying any Silver for emotes because I actually use the Point emote, so I'm not worried there. If they start offering weapons or quest items for money, sorry, I'm out. PVP will be impossible, filled with the richest players on the planet, and I'll have to grind more to get through single player. I'm considering buying Diablo 3's DLC since I heard it massively improved the game, but Destiny is the only video game I play right now (only 6-12 hours a week, calm down), and I'm not a big gamer anyways, so I could love or leave it.

If you don't have the money then don't pay for more DLCS Its not hard. If you do and you want the DLC then fork it over and stop crying. Who the hell cares if they continue with the microtransactions. Its there game and if there making money then obviously people are buying them without many complaints. I'm a college student with 3 jobs barely making it in my friends apartment but somehow I have the ability to produce an extra $40 for destiny once in a while. If the game is fun and you wanna keep playing it then these small amounts of money once or twice a year shouldn't matter. Thanks for listening!

            • When did Bungie say that microtransactions would fund for free DLC? They specifically stated that it would bolster their LIVE team, not development team. I don't agree with microtransactions being added to the game, but still.

            • I like Destiny alot, played it like crazy the last year or so. But they won't get any more money from me, DLC or otherwise. Especially since this fall 2 of my favorite games come out and a slew of backward compatible ones as well. I don't feel ripped off or abused in anyway, but I've already invested enough, money and time.

The stupidity in this post astounds me. You buy the game, don't like how they shape the future of their product and then proceed to insult those that continue to spend money on it. I understand the point of your complaint, yet rather than complain in forums about it (while insulting players) you can simply stop purchasing their products, that's what intelligent people do. If enough people agree with you the company will go out of business...problem solved.

              • I agree with you. I used to love this game. After HoW I had the feeling that this game is still in a Beta stage. So I refused to keep paying for a game that it's not finished. I stopped playing Destiny when TTK was released because they killed the game at that same time. 60 to 70% of the game was killed just to force players to buy TTK. If you don't have TTK then Destiny is worthless. The point that they are making is "either you buy ttk or we are shutting you down". This is how they reward beta / day 1 players. For the moment I am done with Destiny. Maybe I'll be back when Destiny 10 comes out so I can get 2 to 9 for free. I don't regret the many hours I spent on this game. It was fun. To everyone else who is still playing I just have one thing to say "enjoy it and have fun" and don't knock off people who have different opinion then you about this game. Let's face it, it's only a game.

              • Actually, it's more or so the exact opposite. Bungie has spent their time on this emense game and it's expansions. For that, we pay our money to buy the game and said content. Here is why the fan base is the one bashing Bungie. One reason: All games have cut content. The only reason people even brought this up was because Destiny didn't remove the unfinished content before release. They left it there so they could pick up where they left off. DLC has allowed game developers to make their ideas much broader than what they could fit in the game before their release. Games for the Game Cube or Playstation that didn't have online capabilities never got to finish the content thy cut because they didn't have a way to get it to their customers. Now we can just download it. So, instead of just scraping the stuff they didn't have enough time to finish, they can now finish the cut content and allow the gamer to have the full experience of the developers ideas. Most company's completely take the content out and then release it when it is finished. Bungie doesn't do that. They keep the unfinished content so we can see what is in store for the future. Because everyone sees this content, they think, oh well Bungie is trying to just make us pay more for what they already made. If this were the case, it would be way more obvious. Everyone said that the DLC's were only key gens allowing access to the content already on disk but that is not the case. Before each expansion released, they had a major update of around 8GB. This is all of the content they finished and made available to download early so that the server didn't crash when everyone gets on to play the DLC. All of these datamines pulled all of the content out before the release of the content, but they were never found before each of the updates that had all of the new content in it. If anyone disagrees and says that other companies don't cut content like Bungie, you are flat out wrong. Every art related industry cuts parts of their works because they didn't have enough time to present their idea/thoughts before the deadline. Call of Duty does this with multiplayer maps. Some maps they don't finish will then be worked on and the distributed as DLC. They just don't leave any traces of it because it takes up space. Reason 2: Everyone on the forums thinks that Bungie is bad because that is all they read posts about all the haters hating Destiny. Everyone is entitled to express their opinions but their opinions don't necessarily have to be considered a truth. People who enjoy this game never go on the forums because they don't have anything negative to say and they want to play more of what they have. They don't want to take the time to tell Bungie what a great job they did because trey should already know based on sales. Everyone on these forums right now has something to complain about or they wouldn't be using them. They have a problem so they try to seek an answer, and if they can't find one, then they make a post about it. It is just the way it works. The problem is, is that everyone hunks that their opinion is the ultimate truth and can't come to terms with copping with change. People on this forum think they are the almighty and that their opinion is the only thing that matters. Go ahead and think that but don't think you're going to get a following. Since this forum became cluttered with hate due to the greedy brats who want to be handed the things they want and get mad if someone doesn't do everything for them, others have seen that people are angry and think that they need to post about their problems now. They start complaining about silly things that they can just walk away from and then everything spirals out of control. People are coming to the forums to complain about not winning or not being able to complete the harder parts of the game. Reason 3: This community has become toxic. The only ones who voice their opinions are the ones who think that they are the only ones who matter. They will complain about not being able to beat things on the first try. Everyone thinks that their time is the only time that matters and cry when someone isn't as good as them. One person starts throwing fits when others don't play as much as they do and then people think they can do that now because someone else has. It creates a dominos effect where everyone is angry at others for making the stupidest mistakes or things they can't even control. Yes this has turned into a rant but the point I'm trying to make is that everyone in the Destiny community is acting like a bunch of spoiled brats. We are trying to take advantage of Bungie and this needs to stop. They made a game that made allot of us happy. If you don't like this game or the people who play it, then go away. Don't try and keep playing and expect different results. This is the definition of insanity. As Motley Crüe have said, "Don't go away mad, just go away." Instead of complaining about not getting what you want from this game, go find a new one, or post a polite topic about what they could try in the future. The forums where made to let the community pass around info and to let Bungie know what people like and don't like and try to implement hat into the game.
