Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC.
Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse.
So that brings me back to my analogy.
The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately.
The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground.
But no. Not this community.
You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change.
I kry errytim.
Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for
Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift.
They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change.
I kry errytim
Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right?
NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE.
Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10.
Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE.
Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise.
You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny.
Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses.
Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect.
Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do.
Stop acting like there is nothing wrong.
Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game.
And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better.
For -blam!- sake.

Thank you, nobody wants to believe it but this completely true

holy shit calm down, in a year I usually buy up to 3 - 4 $60 games including expansions but I usually spend the majority of the time playing 1. I would much rather buy one game and all of it's expansions as long as it can entertain me and destiny is that perfect game for me, now I know I don't have to waste my money on any other game and instead use half that money to add content to the game that I play the most. so if you truly love this game like I do then don't waste your money on other games that you know you'll only play once in a while, save it for this game. if you are a little bitch that barely plays destiny but buys all the expansions then bitches about it on the forums then just leave this clearly isn't the game for you.

This community (at least the majority that posts in the forums) is more like self-entitled douche bag with a habit that ODs on heroin and everyone that knows him thinks, "-blam!- him. Dude had that shit coming."
-
B+ for good imagery

The main issue is that the community jumped to the wild assumption that future DLC would be free with the introduction of micro transactions. Bungie clearly stated that micro transactions would support the live team in developing future activities. Like the Festival of the Lost which I'm sure was a cost on their PnL. What worries me is that there has been no hint of what we should expect for the next year. And way to compare a relationship with a video game to domestic abuse. Pretty low.

I have fun. If I have to pay to have fun, that's fine with me. I didn't come into this with expectations of free sh!t and undying fan-love from the company. I could not care less about what Bungie/Activision/Sony/Whoever does. I intend to play every aspect of Destiny from start to finish at my own leisure and on my own time. If I have to pay for content, fine. If I don't, that's fine too. It seems to me that too many people thought it was going to be a certain way and when it isn't exactly how they thought, they cry wolf. 25 million different people are going to see this game 25 million different ways. It unreasonable to assume everyone would be happy. If you are happy right now, there is someone who isn't. Deal with it. Beat me and abuse me all you want, Bungie/Activision/Sony/Microsoft/Whoever...I will continue to play destiny because I just like the game more than all my other ones. I'm all in in this one because I have neither the time nor the inclination to start a new game.
-
You don't have to play the game or buy any of the dlc. Don't like it then don't play it.
-
I'd hardly say this community sits by idly. There are posts complaining about $ and Destiny EVERY DAY. The bottom line is you accept how much this game costs and you keep playing or you refuse to pay and go play something else. Activision is NEVER going to make the game more affordable no matter how many people complain about it. They are thriving thanks to this game--and others--that use these sales strategies. A better question is why do so many people incessantly complain about the game and keep playing it? If the $ and 'tactics' of Bungie/Activision are so bad, stop playing! It really is that simple at the end of the day.
-
I dont get it, you want to play a game that has something new every 3 - 4 months but you dont want to support the company
-
Maybe Bungie is a husband that technically does nothing wrong and the community is a paranoid wife who hates her husband but for some reason keeps coming back for no reason. Or maybe that's all a bunch of crap idk?
-
Mate I agree with you on every single word. I am bored of the game and Bungies attitude. We are treated as cash pinyatas to be whacked open. And while Bugnoe dont lie outright they do by omission. Telling us for instance that in Year 2 we would be able to access the biggest collection of weapons and armour and then time gating half of it or hiding it behind tedious quest. Loved how that Activision gimp crowed today about how Destiny is the most watched console game on Twitch, no it isnt. I checked just now and there are more people watching an Isaac game !! Someone will be along soon with the "I had a steak for $40 .." post, you wont change them. Its funny though as they are like Turkeys voting for Christmas and are basically spreading their legs nice and wide for the next cash raid. I am in the UK and we got stiffed more on the price, but I am just not buying anything more. Its the only thing they understand.

I have got great value for the money I've spent. Most players have. I also never assumed free dlc would drop because of micro transactions. Anyone who did think that should stop making assumptions because it's foolish and they hold no worth.
-
You need to calm down. It's just a game.

Truth

Edited by Marcheziora: 11/4/2015 6:43:08 PMFuq y'all, I was right! I told y'all they never said anything about "free DLC", so gullible & naïve people are.
-
They never said micro transactions would fund future dlcs. I stopped reading after that. the emotes were to support the live teams; the live-support, iron banner, trials, etc. Because they had out staffed their budget.
-
Yes sir. Maybe if they lose enough of their player base destiny 2 could be salvaged. Good job hope more people read this. Idk why but some people can't see what is right in front of them.

I like

Bungie can be your best friend or a jerk deal with it
-
I agree 100% and the points in your post along with many other issues that I have with the handling of this game are the reason that Bungie didn't get my money for the Taken King. Unfortunately that decision, combined with Bungie's decision to remove an abundance of the content I had already paid for, made the $100 version of Destiny that I have pretty much unplayable - which is a great reinforcement that I made the correct decision to get out of this mess.
-
I agree with you but as long as people continue to play Bungie/Activision will continue to do this.
-
-
I completely agree but this is unfortunately Activision. I get sick of it but they run the games I enjoy playing and I don't play many games so it puts me in a tough spot. I definitely don't respect them
-
Bwahahaha!
-
Just quit lol stop meaning and taking it personal all you can do is quit and laugh and others who pay for this money machine

Edited by Tempo Delta: 11/4/2015 5:55:46 PMActivision spent 5.9 billion dollars on buying the rights to Candy Crush. That's where your money went.
