So I see a ton of posts about how Halo 5 sucks so much for many reasons. Most are personal opinions and I can respect that. However, there are a few posts I see about how Halo 5s microtransactions will destroy it. These posts are filled with lies about how its p2w or a cash grab. Some people who were iffy on the game see these and decide to pass.
I'm posting this to set the record straight.
REQ cards are items that come from REQ packs. (Think Baseball cards on how you buy it with no idea what's inside, making the Mythic drop all the more sweeter.) These REQ packs can be bought for 2 or 3 dollars. These packs can also be bought with REQ money which is in game currency gained from completing Arena and Warzone matches.
REQ cards are ONLY usable in the Warzone game mode. Your classic Halo game modes in Arena like Swat, Slayer, and FFA as well as any other game modes in the Arena are unaffected by REQ packs and everything other than cosmetic items that come out of them.
Using REQ cards in Warzone cost REQ points. These points are gained collectively as a team. (Though playing with my friend has shown that individual actions seem to affect your REQ level. I'd make it to REQ 5 before him. Further testing required to see what exactly creates the gap.)
Anyway, in order to use a card, you have to have reached the REQ level and have the REQ points available. In Layman's terms, Points are your current expendable in-match currency while Level is your maximum points available. Using a REQ card uses points. If you have 6 points total and use a card that costs 5, you have 1 point left while the 5 begin to recharge slowly 1 at a time.
What this means is that you can't spawn a Tank, die 30 seconds after spawning it, and spawn another one immediately unless your at REQ level 9 (the max level) and have enough points to do so.
So what does this mean? It means buying REQ packs for $$$ only increases your resources faster than someone who plays enough games to buy one with in-game currency. It DOES NOT make it p2w.
Here is an example: Player A buys a Gold pack for $3. Player B plays enough games to get 10k REQ money and buys a gold pack. Both players get a rocket launcher.
Both players enter a Warzone game and play till they reach REQ level 6. Both players spawn with a rocket launcher. Both players walk out and get sniped before they can even fire a shot. Both players respawn without the rocket launcher and have 0 REQ points.
The difference? Player A spent $$$ while Player B spent nothing.
Even permanent unlocks such as weapon modifications can't be considered p2w. These items require a certain REQ level to be achieved. For example, I got a modification for my Battle Rifle. This variant has a bayonet on the front that makes normal melee, not Spartan charge or ground pound, an OHK. In order to equip this variant, I have to reach REQ level 8.
