Just found this is in #feedback. It needs a read.
You are crack on. The individual gun nerfs were PvP related, but the wholesale rendering of all year one weapons and gear to worthless? No one wanted that, there was no hew and cry. That was Bungie course correcting and a complete reversal of DeeJ's own words. Not that we are not used to that... Seriously, point to any post that complained about field scout, firefly, or the variety of gun perks we had. Final round? Sure. Shot package and range finder? Sure. Where did anyone post, "I sure wish Nightfall rewards would be removed, the XP bonus and great weapon drops!"? Where did anyone post, "You know, people do these old raids too much. If only there was some way to make the year one content completely irrelevant..."? Where did anyone post, "I'm tired of playing the old stuff. I wish they would paywall or close off entirely large pieces of the game..."? Place the blame where it belongs - squarely in the lap of a group of "developers" who are quickly gaining a reputation for unerringly making decisions which make their "MMO" more confined, restricted, and less fun with each "addition".
I agree- this man has literally summed up the devs and this game as a whole.

  • Why do they screw all of us HoW players by trashing our exotics and legendarys' attack damages?

Monte Cook (professional table-top role-playing game designer and writer) once noted (paraphrasing) that it is a very bad practice for a game master to reward his players with power and equipment only to take it away afterwards in order to challenge them with same encounters. High level wizard, possessing ability to levitate, should not have it removed in order to be challenged by a simple pit trap. He has earned that power and a game master should remember that when creating new challenges for him. We have earned our power and equipment in year one and now, in a way, it has been removed, taken away from us in order to challenge us the same way we have been for the last year.

      • I can see where you're coming from, but you have to understand, you are the minority. Let me tell you a short story, Bought my collectors pre-owned for $25, the guy from EB games (GameStop) said it had a little bit of wear n tear on the books and covers, I wasn't too fussed. I just wanted the disc and I was too impulsive when I was out shopping. So I’m at the counter, paying for the TTK collectors and the guy serving me has his face down with a smile...like he's holding something in. One of his team members was peaking from around the corner of the store room as I’m getting my receipt printed. "Is that the one?" excited with humorous anticipation he asks the guy serving me. The guy serving me finally cracks into a laugh "Shut up hahaha.” "What? Is there something wrong with my copy? The disc works right?".”Yeah hahaha, it's fine. He's just being an idiot. There you go, have a good weekend mate." So I’m home, I take the cover off the TTK collector's box and open it up. There's a Steelcase game disc cover and a Treasure Island book. First thing, I’ve opened up the cd case, good; the destiny take disc is there. So a bit of wear and tear huh? I have to see what he's referring to. I pull out the Treasure Island book, yeah, thing is tattered as hell. Fingernail scratches and what looks like blood or probably red ink splotches on the spine and front cover of the book. I initially thought this could all be for effect; I wasn't too familiar with what I was purchasing. I open up the book, there's notes, well hand-written notes by Cayde-6 which is pretty cool. I continue reading over the next page and that familiar blood-red ink shows up again, at first in splotches. Then as I continue flipping pages, words. "I didn't ask for this." "Again." "Is that you?" "Please." "Don't leave me hanging :)". I flip to the next page, ignoring the glossy pre-printed black text and focusing on the matt red scrawling, a red drawing of what looks like the tree in the tower... a stick-figure is drawn of a person hanging from the tree. "Can't make it end.” What the hell? Lol this is pretty messed up. I don't think is supposed to be in here, someone is obviously messing around and drawing in the book. I grab a tissue, spit on it and proceed to dab on the red ink. It seeps out onto the tissue; this isn't from the original publishing. On the opposite page of the creepy smiling guy hanging from the tower tree, a hollowed out cavity in the book containing a folded poster, but no strange coin replica as advertised. That's ok, $25, couldn't ask for much. In the round pit of the cavity, looks to be some kind of co-ordinates in black cursive, yet again, the red text re-appears. "I found another way.” This guy is nuts, I can see what the guys working at EB were on about. I wonder if they had the 'pleasure' of meeting the weirdo when trading in. I unfold the poster. On one side, a large exploded diagram of 'Sleeper Simulant' with some sectionals, pretty cool. Flip it over...w..t...f! Crazy here has taken it upon himself to draw all over the damn thing lol. Sets of intersecting straight lines, connecting to letters and numbers, overlaid by what looks to be some kind of demonic circles (not pentagrams) and runes next to other letters and numbers. More text in the same red scattered on the map: "I know your tricks." "He told me." "Please stop lying." "Leylines." "I'm not the only one.". The whole thing was a mess, but on the bottom right hand corner of the poster, two sets of codes, 9 characters long. I went to my laptop and input the codes in the Bungie code redemption page. I remember doing this back around vanilla release, you get quite a few shaders and emblems. I put in the first. Success! "Insula Thesauraria" some kind of emblem I can now collect. I enter the second code: "Invalid code. Please try again". Maybe I misread it, I look carefully and enter it again, I’m sure it was exactly how I entered it. "Please try again.". Strange, didn't say it was invalid. I do another check, there weren't any letters I could confuse with numbers, was pretty clear-cut. I enter the code one more time: "PSN ID: D*********@********.com, Password: ************" followed by another Xbox gamer ID variant. Did Bungie just give me someone's account details? Is this a joke? Must be some elaborate breadcrumb trail. I was nervously intrigued. I really just wanted to play the game at this point, however. So I decided to cut corners and tried to see where this trail led to. I went on Google and entered the account info. I was a couple of weeks late to TTK, surely thousands of others have figured this out by now. I entered the PSN ID and password. a few results came up, but nothing Bungie or Destiny related. I tried to narrow the results down by specifying with quotation marks "Bungie" /"Destiny" "PSN ID" "Password". nothing. So I went back to the original results, the PSN ID referred back to a user email associated with a forum user. The forum was about a help group for people dealing with depression and anxiety issues. There was a post dated back in August 2011 from a user named Daniel87.... ...There was only one post by this user, I can't quote it word for word. "Hey guys, My name is Daniel, I’m 24 years old. I don't think I fit any of these categories, I’m not depressed. One day I slipped on my bathroom tiles and hit my forehead on the sink and needed many stitches. Since then, every time I close my eyes, I see bright red lines in the dark, moving in different directions and connecting with each other, occasionally making patterns. I'm not sure if this is my brain or some kind or blood vessels in my eyelids acting up. But it's really annoying and I find it hard to sleep. It's making me moody and sometimes I feel I’m so tired, I start hearing voices of a woman in my head and it’s not my inner monologue. I know it sounds crazy, I often resort to playing video games, staying up playing until I fall asleep on the couch because I hate closing my eyes. Edit: Before you tell me to get my head checked, I can't afford proper healthcare to get scans. I just want to know if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks in advanced." This post was followed by several replies, all unhelpful, telling him to get a better job or try crowdfunding his medical expenses. Other people suggested relaxation techniques i.e.: meditation etc. That was about it, nothing more from this Daniel guy or his associated username apart from an old outdated Myspace page, had a quick look, nothing out of the ordinary I could see. Despite finding all of this unnerving, I proceeded to start up Destiny TTK, I had already downloaded the patch a few days prior and it was time to put the disc in. I opened up the Steelcase and try to pop out the disc. I never noticed this before, but the central ring in the cover that houses the disc had a tiny piece of folded paper jammed in it. I open the piece of paper. The red writing again: "I could only fold seven times." and underneath in smaller writing: "Let me show you.". F*** this guy! What's he playing at? I pop the disc out of the cover...another note...flat, no folds "Log me in." "You need to see it.". Log him in? He's referring to the credentials I got from entering his code in the Bungie page. 'Alright, let's play it your way, you're scarring the hell out of me now and I want this done with because you're wrecking my day quite frankly.' I thought. I sign out of my PSN and enter his credentials, it worked. I insert the disc and after a few minutes of loading additional files, I’m in. The character select screen loads up with one character, a human Hunter at 170 light level, an emblem back dropped just black. really odd. So I select it for play. connection error, referring me to Bungie help...Error code: Urchin...'O'button "No Daniel." WTF is going on? I’m back at the character select screen, screw it, I’ll start another character. Level 1. A ghost finds me inside a burnt out car shell in old Russia, good time, much reminisce. The ghost, he doesn't talk, no dialogue. What’s going on? I’m sure he's supposed to say something about finally finding me. I'm revived, on my feet. My ghost, he f***s off!, right into the air and over the cosmodrome wall. This isn't right, my game is buggy as hell. A woman's voice whispers in my headset, I swear I got shivers down my spine and goosebumps a split second before I heard it - "Let me show you." just like the note written in red. No one is showing me anything? I’m out of my depth, I’m staying right here with my controller gripped firmly in my sweaty palms, a monumental pillar of 'WTF is this s***?!!" TBC...

            • I'm...... really..... sick.... and tired....of people like you. You're not a game developer. You never will be. You're just a negative person. Who should leave this forum if he hates Bungie so much. The person you quoted is just a huge -blam!-ing moron. Kids these days make me so -blam!-ing angry with how entitled and self-obsessed you all are. You think you deserve the whole -blam!-ing world. The word "understanding" has literally no meaning to you.

For one the game is not now or ever a MMO it is an shared open world fps rpg. so calling it a mmo or expecting to be exactly like any other mmo is just total failure on anyone's part that does.

                • My fireteam and I have been getting more and more frustrated with the same thing. I loved my primary elementals. They offered a slight advantage in the game but not much. Only when there was a burn on a nightfall. But secondary and heavy obviously do more damage so what's the difference. No one complained about them. They gave you a reason to do a raid or go to the light house. Then they introduced the reforge mechanic. I loved it. I rolled my weapons to what I liked. Mainly full auto scout with fire fly. Everyone had the chance, given enough motes, to get the roll they wanted. It was great. And then they removed it from year 2 weapons. It may have made PvP a bit over run with the same rolls but you had a chance like everyone else to get it. The the etheric light. Same principle as the reforge. Great idea. Get light doing a hard task to bring your favourite gear to the next level. Then what do they do. Let's get rid of that too. Then they changed our vanguard and crucible marks to legendary marks. What a f@#% up the was. I could get 600 points per week. Get it per week!!!. I didn't need to jump on for 2hrs every day to get them like I am made to now. Which I dont as there are other things in life to do. I could get all my marks at the end of my swing and have some fun with so other weapons. Bungie you have screwed up well and truly. You had a half decent thing going and it's well and truly broken. You have given this game no reason to complete. Yeah there is the higher levels of light but what for? Trials and banner require have no major affect on light level over 290. Hard raids dropped primary elementals but not anymore. So what is the difference between my other normal weapons to hard raid weapons? A perk that might , and thats a big might, help out with the raid again and a higher light level for what? And I can't even begin to start with the exotics. When are we going to get the rest of them. Or is this all we get till the next dlc. Complete bull@&#". I played a damn long time to get my gear now I can't even us it where I want to. I have had a great time on this game but am almost to the point where I'm done. I've created some good friendships with this game which is great but I'm losing hope altogether.

I am a fan of Destiny, but I am by no means blind to the changes that have been made. While some changes are controversial to say the least, I agree with a few of them. There are, however, several changes/concerns I have a big issue with. 1) The variable light system, as I call it. Where gear drops at varying light levels (normal raid, hard raid, etc.). Bad implementation and one that was outright unwarranted. Etheric light was a step forward....this is a massive step backward. Anyone who says: "If you are complaining about KF raid drops you clearly never grinded VoG", is delusional. The grind is worse than it has ever been. It's artificial, brutual, and down right not fun. This is by far the biggest issue with Destiny right now IMO. At least in VoG or even CE you knew when you got that drop it would be of max light. Not so now.

We heard you liked RNG, so we RNG'd your RNG so you could RNG your RNG....

2) Reputation gains. Who, what, when, where, and why did this need changing? It's nonsensical at best..... Blatant idiocy if you ask me. 3) Loot in general. Something feels "off". I can't pinpoint it to any one area in particular, but it just doesn't feel right.....drop rates and perks alike. For this, I'll harrow back to my days as a Diablo 3 player. Similar to my Destiny "carrier", if you even want to call it that, I started that game back in Beta. Being a huge D2 fan, I was hooked....but something was off. Drops were abysmal and even when you got a legendary, it was often scrapped for material due to bad rolls. It took the D3 dev team 9 months to get their act together, which ultimately resulted in the firing of the original game director. Why? His vision did not align with the players. It took them roughly two months and several patches to get the game back on track to where it should have been on release. The changes were jaw dropping, and that's all I will say about that.
Go try and farm Grasp of Malok, you will see what I am talking about with regards to poor drop rates and random perks.
I'll conclude my observations in my 3rd line item with this little excerpt from a now infamous Kotaku article. Why would I quote this? Because I firmly believe this change would overwhelmingly save Destiny from itself:
In December of 2014, Diablo III director Josh Mosqueira and a few other members of his team at Blizzard came to Bungie for a talk, according to two people who were there. The parallels were uncanny; Diablo III had launched to commercial success in 2012 but saw a great deal of criticism from fans thanks to randomized loot, frustrating online DRM, and a lack of endgame content. Both games shared a publisher, Activision, that thought Destiny could redeem itself in fans’ eyes the way Diablo III eventually had after its release. “They basically came in and said, ‘Look, here’s our story of developing Diablo III and then bringing in [the expansion] Reaper of Souls,’” said one person who was at the Blizzard talk. “They were saying, like, ‘Hey, random numbers are not fun—dice rolls are not fun. You can give the illusion of randomness, but you want to weight it towards the player… The only point you have to deliver on is that when people leave your game—because they will—when they leave your game, they need to be happy.’”
Do you know anyone who has left Destiny happy or at the least only mildly disappointed? Evidence suggests most that leave Destiny are in a tyrannical rage over the games "systems"....

                    • Can't please everyone... With that said, I am one that is not pleased by TTK. Due to the new light level I am now forced to use one certain armor set and weapon set, for the most part. I have exotics that don't mean shit, and ones that do that are under leveled and can't move up because of shit drops. Don't get me wrong, I've played the shit out of this game but this new system of farming and nerfs just does not fit my play. So... Destiny and I will part ways for now. I might swing by now and again for a raid with friends, but most of my friends have already moved on. I am so glad BO3 is tonight and that Fallout and Tomb Raider are out Tuesday.

I am fine with year one legendaries since most they brought forward IE black spindle from black hammer and fate bringer turned into immobus loop. I just want all my exotics no exotics were really unfair besides the ram maybe

                          • Agree completely. Year one may as well be year -100 as the grind and rewards are all now totally useless. A generational jump in 1 year! I read that the Dec update will find a use for Etheric light. Let's hope they update Croata & POE to make them rewarding again. Wonder what we will be saying about Oryx / the taken King 12 months from now? If the current evolution is an indication....oryx who?

Oh look. More unnecessary bitching. Here's a crazy thought: Devs rework what they as the designers realize have faults. Here's another crazy thought: the design of year one perks were flawed and didn't meet their design intentions. Here's even more crazy thoughts: the above statements are true. Perks were designed to provide a benefit with a cost or at most a single decent benefit. Field scout had no cost and also had two upsides. As great as that is for players, in the grand scheme of things it didn't fit. Old content always gets left behind. When Bungie gets the man power maybe they'll spend the time rejuvenating old raids. I wouldn't be surprised if they did. They'd want new players to eventually experience the staples of year one. However, Destiny had an extremely rocky start with year one and it's just found its footing in year two. Releasing new content will obviously always have priority over updating the old.
