I agree with some of this, but I would like to point out, for example, that even if I were able to carry over Thorn, Fatebringer (my favorite yr. 1 gun), Gjallarhorn, etc., I'd still be using the loadout that I'm currently using (Zhalo until my super chargers, then Tlaloc, and legendary sword as the heavy). There should definitely be SOME sort of system put in place so that playing year 1 raids gets you year 2 gear (and not a system like No Time To Explain), but I think Bungie has done a solid job of giving us year 2 weapons that are attractive even when listed side by side with year 1 weapons (although I honestly still am not sure how to feel about Sleeper Simulant). In short, I think that there are definitely some flaws in Bungie's year 2 approach, but there have been some definite positives as well.

  • But I think you make a good case for bringing year 1 forward in that it puts the onus back on the devs to develop new weapons that we want to use...Zahlo, stimulant, and Telesto along with a few others are exotic worthy. Coupled with the fact that year 1 guns are in year 2 under different names makes this whole argument kinda stupid from Bungie...just let us use what we want ...

  • Yup, that's something people brought up even before TTK. Bungie should trust in their designs; fine, if you want to nerf the hell out of G"horn, go for it, but in general, trust that you're giving people interesting options.

  • I have to disagree. The year two guns are ok, but they're nowhere near as good as the year 1 guns were before the wholesale nerf. There is no year two gun as good as vision of confluence, fatebringer, icebreaker, or jolder's hammer. And almost everyone who has one still uses year 1 shotguns in crucible because they're just better than year two guns. The year two guns are ok, but they're the diet coke of weapons.

  • I'm mostly approaching this from a PvE perspective, since I think it's much harder to determine worth in PvP (I also hate Destiny's PvP, so I don't play it). I loved Fatebringer, but I find myself just as effective, if not more with the guns I have now. Sure, that's probably partially play style, but there are some pretty damn good weapons out there (albeit almost all exotic).

  • Zahlo Supercell and Tlaloc are two of the best guns in Year 2. (Add to that list Telesto, Black Spindle, and the raid machine guns. I'm sure other have found new favorites too). What you're really saying, whether you realize it or not, is that Bungie could have dissuaded us from using the old guns simply by making newer, better guns.

  • That is a portion of what I'm saying, yeah. I think that Bungie should've trusted in their gun designs, and should've carried year 1 exotics and raid weapons over to year 2, because a lot of people would still be using year 2 weapons. However, I also think that they need to rethink how they've made so much of year 1's content obsolete.
