Monte Cook (professional table-top role-playing game designer and writer) once noted (paraphrasing) that it is a very bad practice for a game master to reward his players with power and equipment only to take it away afterwards in order to challenge them with same encounters. High level wizard, possessing ability to levitate, should not have it removed in order to be challenged by a simple pit trap. He has earned that power and a game master should remember that when creating new challenges for him. We have earned our power and equipment in year one and now, in a way, it has been removed, taken away from us in order to challenge us the same way we have been for the last year.
