The root of the problem is transparency, or lack thereof...I prefer the "season pass" method. Then, at least I know that it's going to cost x amount of dollars for x amount of DLC. E.g. buy a COD game and season pass, 120 dollars = base game and a years worth of DLC (usually 4). Standardized DLC pricing and set amount of DLC content would probably quell much of the discontent.
