Sniping in Crucible

I see a lot of complaints about the 1000 yard and how it made sniping easier. The truth is sniper rifles have not changed all that much after 2.0. A lot more people are practicing and using snipers now because the shotguns are not what they use to be. The result is that it is a lot more evident how dominating snipers can be and with a bit of practice and patience, you can do well with sniper rifles. If you go through some old forums many people predicted that as soon as shotguns are not as dominate, snipers will take their place. The smartest thing you can do is to start practicing and using snipers. For the time being, if you want to dominate in crucible particularly ToO, you have to know how to wield a sniper rifle. EDIT 1: The point that I was trying to get across in the this post was not that sniper rifles are perfectly balanced. Rather, they have not been buffed. More people are replacing their shotguns with sniper rifles. The 1000 yard was given to everyone as a mission reward or it could be purchased from the vendor. If you compare snipers like longbow, LDR, or shadow of veil pre 2.0, you will see that they perform very similar to 1000 yards. Before 2.0 you had 4-5 people on team with a shotgun and 1-2 people with a sniper. Now you are seeing 3-4 people on team running a sniper, so naturally you will get killed by snipers more often.

  • I mainly snipe, and I can say that snipers have too much aim assist. 1000 yard stare comes around at 54 aa default. The one everyone has from the quest, has Shortgaze scope and rifled barrel. Shortgaze adds 10 aa, while it is unknown how much aim assist rifled barrel gives. I would think it would be 10 - 15, because an increase in range, means an increase in aa. So now you are possibly coming around at 74-79 aa. At this point, the gun is almost aiming for you. My 1000 yard stare has Shortgaze, and Hidden hand. This puts me in the same (or maybe higher) range of aa. Sometimes I hit shots I shouldnt, where my scope was at their neck or shoulder. Aim assist/target acquisition all mean Bullet magnetism. I have watched my own clips, and other people's, and noticed bullet magnetism is highly present in this game. I still think sniping is harder to do than shotgunning, but sniping is getting to the point of being too easy. Everyone and their mom was able to pick up a shotgun and use it back in previous patches, snipers are getting there too. Aim assist needs to be set at a base of 20-30, scopes shouldnt add aa, and there should be no perks to add aa (rifled barrel, send it, hidden hand). You should use snipers because of looks, impact, and handling, not how well the sniper will aim for you. Just my thoughts.
