Hey guys,
I recently completed my Void Drinker sword quest. While I am happy for finally getting the exotic sword, I am disappointed as a beta & year one Destiny fan that one of the quest steps relied heavily on RNG. I am of course talking about the Essential Elements. I am thankful for the folks at Reddit and YouTube for pointing out the easiest way of gathering the required materials:
1) Get a ghost shell with the appropriate sensor perk
2) Run between loading zones and farm the material nodes for the %5-10% chance of the required material dropping.
However, I feel that I abused the system and the quest is designed to be played with friends to pass the time. I was lucky to have a podcast to listen to. I realize that this one of the ways to prolong game-time, but there should be a better way to allow solo players to feel accomplished without making it feel like a job. While asking to raise the drop percentage may be an option, although cheap, there should be more than one way of getting the materials. Perhaps reward the materials for strikes/enemies based in that location? Understandably, Bungie would have to put a lot of work if a new mechanic were to be implemented, but something has to be done. I am okay with most of the grind quests that I feel I have control over, just not something that is this random.
