Passive aggressive inappropriate tone from Deej and other Bungie employees

Ive been noticing an increase in the amount of disrespect from bungie employees on community forums. Just look at todays weekly update and the extremely snarky and sarcastic comments from Deej such as "omg he only has 1600 weapon parts left we need to do something" and "we hold the right to do anything with the game economy we want." Does anyone else think snarky comments like this are very unprofessional? Like Bungie you act like your some sort of hero for fixing a problem that YOU created. Here is a comment from another post that explains my thoughts perfectly, all credit goes to user Wahrnye "Just another joke of a weekly update that makes it easier to not look back on this game going forward. Announcing the weapon parts change - Fine, but that's a fix to a problem THEY created. And when addressing the fact that THEY created this problem, DeeJ wraps it up in unnecessary snark about being curators of THEIR living world. Hubris to the highest degree; it's almost as if they're saying how dare we question their choices? Let me say this next part slowly so the apologists can understand: Etheric Light and Wormspore uses should have been in the game since September's launch, not something coming soon by December. They knew Etheric Light was a thing that many people had plenty of and they also introduced Wormspore (apparently) without any regard for what to do with it outside a few weapon upgrades. IIt's going to take them almost 3 months to finally make these things meaningful? These are all issues they created by poor planning or bad oversight, not something they should be praised for fixing AFTER the fact. The rest of the entire update was about the same tired PVP bullshit as almost every other weekly update. No news on new content, no commenting on the terrible loot system - especially in regards to raid drops (I love doing the raid and getting a fourth duplicate item at 302 light... ) - or the fact that Nightfalls, Strikes, and Court of Oryx ceases being rewarding once you reach 300 light or more. I've seen this playbook before. Between this and Activision spouting off their easily manipulated "registered user" numbers (aka 'investor math'), they've pretty much already decided they're going to pander to the base players who believe Bungie can never, ever, do any wrong. Nothing will change going forward. Bungie and Activision are living in their own echo chamber - as evidenced by the fact that they spend more time conversing with the "community" on Bungie-friendly outlets like Reddit and Twitter..." EDIT: A lot of you seem to think im just looking for something to be offended by cuz im a "no balls toxic loser" Its more im just fed up with the bullshit direction this game is taking like timegating exotics that i already payed for to extend gameplay time and patching things like weapon parts for no -blam!-ing reason Perhaps the most irritating thing is the bungie fanboys and dickriders who will stop at nothing to defend everything the devs do to this game and every word that comes out of that douchebag known as Deej's mouth. Go ahead meet me with ninja justice for stating the obvious about your shit company and bottomfeeder fanboys EDIT2 It seems the common defense for Deejs tone is "oh bungie has to go through so much shit and complaining on the forums, people are meanies" You people cant seriously believe its ok for a company to retaliate in this fashion. Oh no a game developer has to see negative feedback about the game they made wahh wahh prayers for bungie" All of you are saying "can the entitled/offended generation go away", if you ask me the people defending bungie with this mindset are the "offended generation." Some of you say, "The customer is always right bullshit has to stop." Anyone who utters this is a complete moron and has either no concept of business ethics or is 15 years old and thinks they are being righteous and hip. Go ahead, start a business and whenever a customer has a problem with you or the product, tell them to -blam!- OFF. Yea thats a good business model, you will surely succeed.

  • I have to say the weapons parts nerf was a stupid idea to begin with. This fix isn't really the best solution. That said the "tone" of the update doesn't bother me. There is no vocal inflection. Any tone is solely added by the reader usually in synch with their expectations.

    • I'll try to make this succinct. Who said you needed to praise them? No where did I see anyone ask for a pat on the back. Sarcasm is a common theme with the community managers-- take it or leave or-- this is leagues away from the Luke Smith comment. I don't think he was being snarky. They do have the right to adjust the economy as they see fit, and people seem to need a reminder of that. You purchased a licence, essentially, not ownership of the game. Other than that, yea... There were many things that should have been addressed in this week's update that weren't mentioned... But that's Deej's boss' fault.

      • Here is my take on it. Most of the criticism on these forums is far to TOXIC. People bad mouth and shit talk everyone that doesn't completely agree with their opinion on how Bungie needs to fx things. We all act like enemies rather than a community that wants a great game from a great developer. Bungie for sure has made their mistakes and we are still not where we want to be regarding the way Destiny works overall; however if you had tens of thousands of people yelling and throwing curse words at you via these forums every single day would you want to please them? No you would get defensive and create a TOXIC environment for everyone. What truly needs to happen is the tone of which the criticism is delivered in needs to change. We need to ask for things to change with detailed explanations of why we feel that way. The devs are people too with egos and feelings. Treat them that way and we will have a happier community willing to get more accomplished quicker. Thanks

        • If they would listen to their community, they'd make a lot more money cuz you make money when you give the community what you want.

          • Personally I believe you're just a being a bit immature if I say so myself. You call Deej a douchebag because he changed a few elements in a game that shouldn't have been there in the first place? Learn some priorities. Seriously, you even make so many comments about the community of the game that yield literally no argument and are there purely to try and vent your frustration in a derogatory manner, even if you don't think so. And if you do, please explain how you believe this childish drivle would help anything. While I can agree that the community is toxic and that Bungie have stumbled on themselves a bit for this entire project, I have to say that you're also being pretty toxic and in the end; they're only human. Maybe you should think about spending your money in other places. Too many people are concerned about what they're paying for and/or spend a lot of time complaining about the item they bought. It's like going to a specific clothing store, buying something, not liking it or the shop's customer service, then going back there for more clothes.

OP maybe applying Passive /Aggressive to BUNGiE's responses to community over he last year.. BUNGiE does a great job at: - Verbally complying with Community requests, while delaying making changes. - Deej & Co comments often come across as backhanded sarcasm (hey, they've got better in the past year). So here's one pattern BUNGiE employs.. they 1) Go dark & seemly withdraw from g8 ideas & pure hatemail, or 2) Communicate agreement to make changes & then use the software dev cycle* to delay a positive result. This can result in the issue being shutdown or at least placed on the back-burner. But gee, must be difficult for BUNGiE Employees to suppress anger at some of the Community's posts. ** & don't forget Dudes, Haters & Baiters.. P/A works on these Forums by driving free PR & traffic** Game Design Changes - Add Less Salt Thanks BUNGiE At times, amazed that BUNGiE.vision completely fail at managing negative PR on a Global scale (literally)! Qu's come to mind such as: Do they have a Communications Team & or budget for PR Concubines - opsy, meant Consultants? .. & why, why don't they give more time & dedication to playing out key scenarios before releasing onto the wild blue yonder (esp Game Design changes that affect motivation to play)? So.. consider the final formula for FPS/MMO/RNG/whatever remains work-in-progress? * Software Development Lifecycle - understand that enhancements, new features etc take time to implement, the Community's reality is they live a a world where changes need to be a hell of a lot faster. To a degree, as a Player, I expect the platform that is Destiny, to absorb & make changes much faster then we are currently seeing (esp now we are in year two of Commercial release). Bit of a War n Peace post, but there u go.. Kudos though to BUNGiE for overall management of Destiny's complex game design!

              • I just think the snark is Deej's humor. I doubt he means it personally. He's even made fun of Bungie and himself before. I'm not against criticizing Bungie and I feel no need to defend their every action but I think you might be a little off base with that.

Calling BS on your boss Deej. If he's a higher up at Bungie/Activision then he definitely follows a cardinal rule. You don't get high on your own supply.

              • I didn't read it as passive-aggressive, rather it read to me as stupid-embarrassed. The designers tried to slow us down in a stupid way, were called on it, and came with an equally stupid alternative. That's the stupid part. Deej was stuck reporting what the morons he works with did. That's the embarrassed part.

                • There are countless threads started every day whining about the game I think it is only fair that they get to take the occasional jab back at us. The community is too fricking sensitive sometimes and that was obviously a joke.

                    • It's not so much Deej, or Cosmo, but the crap they're fed to feed to us. Don't think that his updates aren't edited or approved by someone higher. Would imagine additions and suggestions, as well as bullet points they're required to hit are pushed on both. Destiny is being ruined from within, be it a cocky Luke Smith or Activision meddling. We can bitch and moan, it doesn't matter. I speculate there's an agenda, at least a few months in advance, and everything you see works towards that. If not then it's worse than ever. I hate to admit it, but I'm nearly at my breaking point. Bullshit nerfing of things that needn't have been meddled with have led me to believe what we say and do doesn't matter. Hope I'm wrong, about all of it. I really do.

                      • It's whatever. So what if they fixing problems that they created....this is literally the middle ground between Taken King and a new DLC that might be coming out in the next two months. Was the comment snarky? Yea, a little bit. Should you get butt hurt about it? I don't think so. These guys get bashed everyday by people saying "#Cozmo is a douche blah blah blah" and "#Deej is an idiot who doesn't give a flying f*ck about any of us"....just because he makes one smart remark about weapon parts and then says they're the curators of the world that we play in doesn't mean that you need to get overly butt hurt about it. Every game is going to have some sort of problem with it that people are going to complain about....it's always going to happen until the end of time. They can't immediately tend to every single complaint at every single minute of the day.
