You want one reason? 1.) everything from year 1 has been reskinned and is available in year 2, with some variations. And these variations are based on a lot of data and forces guardians to accomplish NF, raids, etc. a differently. It's no longer hand cannon based. If you'd like a second reason... I'll provide you with one too. Burns. Posts have been on here that there's been a lack of the cool burns primaries use to have. Only 2 year two weapons have it and they are both exotic and arc. And both being exotic, is pretty taxing because it would be nicer to use an exotic special or heavy. (Still waiting on exotic ghost with life exotic. Just throwing that out there bungie). My answer to legendaries not having burn- they gave us a third subclass. You are still able to apply all three burns if you needed to.

 •
everything from year 1 has been reskinned and is available in year 2 [...] forces guardians to accomplish NF, raids, etc. a differently.
Dude, if it's the same gear, then there is no statistical way it could change how players play. Either the beggining of this statement is false, or the ending is; you can't have both. And you seem to think removing Elemental Primaries was a good move, which I vehemently disagree with, for two reason; 1. Elemental Primaries never once negatively effected anyone in this game; that's a fact. Removing them was in Bungie's interests, not the players', because they only ever benefitted the player. They were perfectly balanced, and they made fantastic rewards for Destiny's most elite challenges, which brings me to my next point... 2. Without burns, Endgame weapons become infinitely less desirable. As hard they are to obtain, if Endgame rewards don't offer players something distinct from the rest of the gear pool, then there is no longer any reason for players to participate in said activities. Bungie removed them because they want increased diversity, but they still tried to make Raid gear superior to everything else... which is retarded, because the end result is that players are still largely only using Engame gear; JUST LIKE THEY DID IN YEAR 1, FOR THE SAME REASON. The only way they can convince players to really diversify their gear is to make all gear equally desirable- but they cant, because that would break the Endgame. Catch-22.

 • Finally a discussion I might actually enjoy. First, I'd like to thank you for not using scrub in your reply. As for reskinned weapons and diversifying gameplay. The numbers on the guns are different along with the perks. IMO, it was a shortcut instead of having to completely reinvent the wheel. Plus with the new weapon line from the three weapon brands, if you will, make for a pretty big selection. Just because they are reskinned, doesn't mean that they have to be used constantly like in year 1. Any burn on a weapon primary was a definite must to have equipped in pve at least. And if this isn't true, at least the mindset was true. People hunted Templar and Atheon for FB and VoC. And Crota obviously. Granted I loved having the burns, but I think bungie had it right by revoking them this time. I felt too strong and nothing was challenging until PoE. Without the burns, it makes it more fun for me. Like I had to coordinate weapons with team mates like I would for trials.

 •
IMO, it was a shortcut instead of having to completely reinvent the wheel. Plus with the new weapon line from the three weapon brands, if you will, make for a pretty big selection.
Ah, but they already did reinvent it! The 2.0 patch was implemented with the express intent of balancing the entire gear pool; both Year 1 and Year 2. And, even if you think the amount of gear in TTK is fine (which I don't, but that's fine), imagine how much bigger it could've been! They already went through the entire Year 1 weapon/perk sets and literally rebalanced them one-by-one, making them perform at the same level as Year 2; they put in all that work, yet they're still limiting Year 1 to PvP, which is asinine. Elementals aside, the entire gear pool is on completely equal footing, and there is no reason why PvE players should be left out. And, as for Elementals; like I said, they were a FANTASTIC motivation to participate in the Endgame, and they never hurt anyone.
I felt too strong and nothing was challenging until PoE. Without the burns, it makes it more fun for me.
It might be more fun for you, but it's less fun for me. I assume you can understand that? :P I understand that you want an actual challenge, and trust me, I agree; I almost never used Ghally for that exact reason. However, that was my choice, and it was completely independent of what anyone else used; their choices didn't affect me, and my choices didn't affect them. If you don't want to rely on Burn Primaries, you should have every option to use other weapons; however, if I do want to use them, I should have the same freedoms as you do, when it comes to what I want to use! The gear system is primed to cater to both types of players, yet players like me are the one's who get exclusively shit on, while players like you are fine. Doesn't that seem unnecessary to you, given that we could both theoretically get out way?

 • Your reasoning is pretty cool. I have to admit. You do bring up some good points. If they had more primary weapon burns, I'd be using them. If they had a y2 Gjallarhorn, I'd be using that too. But since they are yet to come, I just reason that maybe we don't need them. Sorry my eloquent friend. I can't make any more promises than Deej, but maybe they'll bring them back. Maybe it was a great idea, then they read the data and thought they were too powerful to keep.

 • Solid discussion. Whatever happens, I hope we all win, in the end. :D
