Chances are there's not a single on of you that plays/still plays this, but I don't care. This is an important event in MMO's and I'm posting it all on forums on the internet I browse. I'm just posting it now before Todd Howard kills this forum on Tuesday with Fallout 4.
On Tuesday 9/10/15, Square Enix will release Part 3 to Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, the final content update to Final Fantasy XI online, and will shutdown the servers for both the PS2 and 360 sometime in March of next year, officially near-concluding its support of the 13 year old MMO title. Vana'diel will live on in Grandmasters for various smartphones. SE Division V will conjoin this major moment in the games history by hosting a collaboration event with its younger sibling XIV when it releases its first major content update after the release of the first expansion Heavensward. XIV executive producer Yoshida encourages all adventurers with both games to return to Vana'diel to play through the conclusion of the game that brought joy to adventurers since May of 2002. SE has yet to announce any planned permanent shutdown of the games PC servers, but the general notion of the community is that the games population will decline completely soon after the content update, marking the games end.
I personally started adventuring in Eorzea in XIV before I made an account for XI. And while the first ten hours of XI really kept me with a grumpy face because I had no idea what I was doing and the game didn't hold my hand, I couldn't help but love the sense of actually adventuring in a world that XI gave me. My only complaint is that they never did fix the camera problems with the game, even though it was released back in 2002 and it was supposedly something people griped about since then. Please share your thoughts about this games great milestone, even if you're not a fan of Final Fantasy.

Edited by dova spook: 11/7/2015 4:30:14 AMI'm a bit of a Final Fantasy fan but never played XI; honestly, I forgot it was still going. If Square-enix's first MMO lasted 13 years, if say it was a good run. Here's to Vana'diel!
