Time gates extend the playability of the game .. What's so bad about that? Everyone moans the game doesn't give a lot of reason to come back so they introduce time gates and more people moan ... Logic lost.

Time gates do not extend playability. They take the little bit of playability and break off chunks for when they feel like it. In the end, you exhaust all the non-timegated content much faster due to lack of variety. Then when the timegate hits, you exhaust that because you'd rather replay that than the same strike you've already exhausted. (A large ice cube melts slower than 9 small ones.)
