A week without playing Destiny has opened my eyes.
With TTK destiny got a lot of good things like the new questing system, more interesting bounties.. a whole new patrol area. Strikes that are fun to play and new subclasses that feel fun to play.
But with those good things there came things that in the end ruined the game for me and many others I believe.
Weapons: You took away our favourite weapons from Y1. Fatebringer, Icebreaker, Black hammer and Gjallarhorn and gave us no choice of ascending the gear we have grown into. Instead, you gave us a bunch of new weapons that dont feel as powerful as Y1 weapons even remotely. You murdered Hand cannons and gave us Hand Cannon lovers no way of practising our trade.
I personally have not found a set of new weapons I would feel home at.
Lvl 34-40: I went from 34-40 in a one day! In a game where you are forced to grind for gear you get the XP levels for free? XP levels are utterly useless. Just a number which rolls up too quickly.
In my opinion this was a huge -blam!- up from bungie.. Levels should have meaning, Levels should be harder to get.
Sense of progression and old content: None! All the gear we have grinded was swept useless in a single blow! Bungie does it periodically to keep players grinding for gear. But for what? I dont see the carrot grinding items anymore. After the items have swept clean from our pockets, the old content get rendered useless.
The game gets an "expansion" But actually gets shrinked.
Time Gated Items: Bungie please! Let ME decide when I play! As a father of a 6 year old girl and working 5 days a week I dont have time to play whenever RNG just happens to pop up the quest in the daily rotation. So no black spindle for me, as the days the quest is up I just dont have the time to play.
Still no LFG system: As I said, I dont have time to spend hours visiting Facebook, Bungie.net, DestinyLFG or any other 3rd party LFG site to get a team together I have no proof of how it will perform in the raid. I have like 50 PSN friends on my list and that gets me a 1 raid per 2 weeks if I try really hard. Mainly because my working times are concidered to be different from normal in my country.
Rewards: Last time I played, I was with a struggling team on Oryx. We played 4,5 hours and stopped on Daughters as the team scattered. 2 hours of putting the people together, 4,5 hours of raiding. Thats 6,5 hours of effort.. What was my rewards you may ask? 304 boots and a bunch of shards. RNG system can be so cruel and Bungie claimed they have improved it. Raid drops in general are pretty bad compared what we had in the previous raids.
Raiding should be rewarding experience.
Microtransactions:
This was just a last nail in the coffin for me. I always have been against games that try and pry more money out of their product by making the player addicted and then starting to cash that addiction in.
In response Bungie havent announced anything about the next DLC. There are too much rumors going around.
Will it be free? And if its free? Is it going to be cheap like free products are?
No point in light 310+: You released hard raid for us to get over light 310. But for what? to play Hard mode raid? If I land to the moon and kill some dregs as light 260 character, I do it as efficiently as I kill them with light 320 character.. Because the difficulty modifier system is just plain bad. I didnt kill atheon and crota.. Skolas and Oryx just to struggle in a starting area against low level monsters. Where is the sense of character developement here?
Iron Banner I loved the way how House of Wolves iron banner offered you a new way of reaching the maximum level with the etheric light. It felt rewarding and fun way to get those etheric lights. With TTK iron banner you just murdered the illusion of the rewarding experience grinding a week in PvP tournament.
Now you have light 280 legendary items as a reward for such a special event? I dont know what to say..
The addiction: From launch to TTK, I played every single day. And when I didnt play, I would pop up the destiny app and see what the forums had to say about daily missions or would they have a new cheese for the lamp section at crota. In general I had to drop a lot of activities to make time for my beloved new hobby, Destiny.
When TTK launched I had a change in work schedule and I slowly started to realize I should probably give some time to the family and friends too. I made the decicion to slow down with destiny and at the same time not knowing about the time gated exotics.
Now I keep destiny at bay. I keep prowling the forums and wait if they launch the next DLC.. And what are the major changes if any to the game. But with confidence I must say Destiny is done for me. It seemed like a game I would play trough the whole 10 year plan.. But it turns out its not.
Without my addiction I have found a lot of things to do with my life!
Its like my eyes would have been opened from a long sleep..

I agree with this post to the fullest degree. I am seeing alot more people with these exact feelings who spent hundreds if not thousands of hours grinding on this game in Year One to get what they like. Me personally I liked the raid gear from crota and my ghorn, now everything I busted my ass to get is crap. None of the items myself or alot of other people carried forward like ghorn, icebreaker and patience and time to name a few. Now we all have to regrind to allow for the noobs to catch up so the server occupancy can show high limits. Like you my patience and time are out for destiny, hell I haven't run but one new raid and that was at a cp for oryx. Thank you Bungie for a year of fun and for screwing your fan base by forcing us to dispose of the items we love for the crap you throw at us. I know the microtransactions are cosmetic but how long will that last once interest has increased or the need for certain items cause people to start buying them. BO3 is a good looking game, Fallout 4 is about to drop and our Destiny is taking a new direction to better games.

Well one thing's for sure, there will be changes in the next DLC, just like there has been in every DLC. This is not Bungies way of keeping things interesting, it's their way of telling us that they don't have any idea what they're doing and are winging things without any form of direction. Does anyone honestly believe that the economy changes we've had since launch were planned? They are throwing around currencies as if they had a full team dedicated to just that yet they're not able to work out the math for simple things such as marks, consumables and possible exchange . It doesnt make any sense that active players constantly are capped out on the end-game currency, legendary marks, while starving on things such as weapon parts. That's the first thing a devoted developer would have been all over.

No other game pulled me away, I just got tired of the drops for the raid not matching the effort involved... Plain and simple, really...

What I got from this post: I need a weapon to kill fast because I'm lazy. I need a weapon to sit back and not need to move with. I don't want to let go of old weapons. I don't realize that Bungie's priority is the new expansion. I don't realize Destiny has memory restraints due to older gen consoles. I'm having trouble prioritizing Destiny versus my daughter. I hate micro-transactions despite they are completely cosmetic. I come on the forums to complain but not find new fireteam members. I don't have time to find/join a clan out of the thousands recruiting. Summary: I want everything handed to me on a silver platter.

Right? I haven't played in a couple days and I've got no plan to return. It was fun but the burn out is real
-
Am not addictive to it anymore and got back to GTA 5 lvl 370 and have Everything that the game has to offer + i have over 24m to spend in what ever i want, new DCL cars maybe idk
-
Add to the list: why haven't they figured out a way to provide purpose for all the previously existing Raids? All of this work done to continually "expand" the game, but it never truly expands because the new content effectively renders the old completely useless! What a waste of great content! Why not raise the light level of ALL raids each release and just let the player base decide what they like best? Don't want everyone using VOG gear? Consider that a challenge to create new and better gear then!! #Notrocketscience

ttk, the shrinking expansion.

Step 1. Admitting you have an addiction. Step 2. Dismantle your Gjallarhorn. Step 3. Say, "Hell no I'm not dismantling my G-Horn!" Step 4. Keep going for that perfectly rolled imago loop.
-
In-game LFG would be more toxic and less competent than Bungie.net and DestinyLFG.net combined.
-
Agree. The hand cannon nerf made me quit last weekend. Pvp is now a bunny hopping puls rifle spray spectacle with pulse rifles killing at a medium and long range faster than hand cannons ever managed to do.
-
One thing you forgot to mention is that the light system is why we get horrible drops. In year 1 you only had to worry about 1 thing: actually getting the drop you want. Then it was a simple matter of getting ascendant materials and an etheric light if you needed it. In year 2, you have to worry about actually getting the drop, getting it at light level 310 or 320, and making sure it has the rolls you want on it. It's ridiculous, and makes rewards on this game suck because they always end up being like light level 303 or something else really low. One time I did a full raid and only got 300 rated gear.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed. Thank you for your well-written post. Weapon Tuning 2.0 and what you have mentioned above have really hurt Destiny - one of my all-time favorite games. Hoping some news will come about soon that will turn things around for Destiny. Cheers.

I let it go about 3 weeks ago, great points FYI!!
-
Bump. Well said.

Mmo structure isn't for everyone. You can't find a first person shooter raid experience like destiny anywhere else. Its WoW meets Halo.
-
Well, I'd have to agree with you on this one. I've found myself playing less and less of this game I once loved. I have been making progress on my old hotrod that had been sort of abandoned this last year. Destiny was fun and I certainly feel as though I got my money's worth out of it, but it's time to get back to real life!
-
Bumping this everyday
-
I'm right there with ya. With the launch of TTK, my year one progress was made irrelevant, and the year 2 weapons and drop rates are lackluster. They somehow managed to make destiny even more of a grind fest than it used to be, and I just don't have time for it anymore. Logging on feels like clocking in for another job so I can earn marks and progress, rather than for enjoyment like it used to be. The devs still don't know what they want Destiny to be, and I'm going to play sparingly until this game has an established identity. I'm not complaining, or proclaiming my "I quit" from the rooftops, but rather I'm stating that my addiction is finished as well.
-
It's absoltely criminal that they just keep taking away content- they're forcing us to buy the expansion. It's even worse with TTK redoing levels, which was of course absolutely intentional.
-
Agree 100%! And I've come to the same realization. Time to move to Fallout 4. Lol
-
Can u help me on the raid plz
-
100%. Bungie lost me due to all your reasons and then some. I was a 2,000+hour,3 character, everyday player. I quit 3 weeks ago and refused to do HM even for the achievement. They showed their hand and I hate them as a developer now. Their plan with this game and the manipulation of addictive traits and exploiting them to the fullest makes me sick. If you wan't the powers that be to think this EXPERIMENT is ok by all means keep playing. If not, send them a message and STOP PLAYING!! Were all being duped on some next level behavior control mods. Get your dopamine rushes elsewhere. F--K DESTINY!

Great writeup and sums up why I wasn't even going to buy TTK, until bungie removed about 70% of the game unless you bought TTK. I ended up buying it but after seeing all my long hours pissed away and weapons that were hard to get worthless, it left me with the feeling of why grind anymore when each release my hard work goes to waste and becomes useless. Anyhow I feel the same and also have been hardly signing on as I don't care to spend hundreds of hours chasing nothing. Great writeup.

They messed up by rendering old content pointless and no newer weapons worth getting just confirm they care more about attempting to stretch content than actually creating an enjoyable game
