But isn't infusing practically the same thing as ascending and using etheric light?

No. You can only infuse up to the level of an item you've already received. Etheric light was more along the lines of a special material that would automatically raise something to the highest level, so it guardanteed max level.

Edited by Catty_Wampus22: 11/10/2015 7:57:47 AMBut 1 of the op's original complaints was they were able to go from 34 to 40 in no time.....so you all want to take longer leveling up but want almost immediate weapon/armor upgrades? I think the current system is a little better than befote, definitely better than 'forever 29'. Granted my highest character is only 295 or something, so I'm probably not running into as many of the problems as the 300+ people yet.

Edited by Serene Peace: 11/10/2015 10:11:02 AMTrust me. The current system is a brick wall, being forever 29 was way better. Think about it this way. To reach max level, you need a 320 artifact, a 320 ghost, a 320 primary, a 320 secondary, a 320 heavy, a 320 helmet, a 320 chestpiece, a 320 pair of gloves, a 320 pair of boots, and a 320 class item. Compare that to needing a max def helmet, max def gloves, max def chestpiece, and max def boots. That was it in year 1.

Not even that, really, if you think about it. Say everything I have equipped is 305. If I infuse my primary with a 320 weapon it's not gonna bump it all the way up to 320. Only if it's already 315 or something.
