Ace combat 5 os rated T. There's a lot of story there, tear jerking moments, and fun gameplay.
Battlefront 2 is rated T, and it went in depth to the happenings of the 501st legion in a fun and interesting way.
Halo wars is rated T. Though the story wasn't 100% amazing, it wasn't held back by its rating and had a lot of interesting points.
Wing commander prophecy is rated T. Not only did it have an interesting story, but the mechanics of the game changed based on your choices and in-game performance (watch your best friend become one of your best wingmen as you push back the enemy, or watch him disown you because your a failure and no one wants to fly with you. Didn't help all of those damaged fighters as they limped back to your carrier? Hope you can pick up the slack if your carrier comes under attack).
It's not the rating that's the deciding factor of what you can do with a story (unless you need sex, torture, drunks, or ticker Tuesday to be part of the story), it's being willing to put out the effort to write a story.
Just because a game is T, doesn't mean that it can't have a good story. Just as a game rated M or 18+ doesn't mean it'll have a better story if it has one at all.
Destiny could have had (past tense. It's taken a year for anything close to a narrative, so an actual story at this point may cause panic as it breaks or disproves theories that people are so willing to come up with for intentionally vague or misleading back stories that aren't actually found in the game) a story, but the effort wasn't there. Maybe it was at some point, but we didn't get to see that effort.
