Lost Sols pointed me (and many others) to this article: http://www.gamesradar.com/heres-why-theres-no-matchmaking-destiny/
Luke, it almost feels like you don’t read these forums. And if you do, it looks like you don’t care. :-(
When a raid, nightfall, strike, whatever starts there should be a little menu:
Welcome guardian! Thanks for sticking with us! We want to give you three options for this event. Please pick one and we’ll take care of the rest!
1. I want to run this one solo (yes, I know the consequences).
2. I want to run this one with randoms (yes, I know the consequences).
3. I want to run this one with my online friends (Luke’s choice).
Luke, please get this: We want OPTIONAL matchmaking. That's something different than FORCED matchmaking.
I will explain this by using ice cream instead of matchmaking. When you go to your favorite ice cream shop, it is very nice if you get a question like:
"Do you want chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc. etc?"
That sounds nice! That's not the same as forced ice cream:
"HERE IS THE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM!"

"No help! I don't want it!"

"YOU HAVE TO EAT IT! I WILL JAM IT DOWN YOUR THROAT IF I HAVE TO!"
Now that doesn't sound nice at all, now does it? So there's a clear difference between forced ice cream and optional ice cream. The same goes for matchmaking. There's a big difference between forced matchmaking and optional matchmaking.
Luke, what Destiny means to you, is not what it means to everybody. Please get that. Fix this game while you still can, or soon everybody will be playing fallout, battlefront, halo 5 or any other great game that comes around.
