I think the real concern here isn't so much choice as meta game. With an organized community of dedicated players willing to theory craft all possible permutations of gear, year 1 gear in some instances may remain the best in a given slot. This broadens the scope of the meta game quite a bit and makes balancing new gear that much harder.
This broadens the scope of the meta game quite a bit and makes balancing new gear that much harder.
But they already did balance it!!! You act like it would take too much of their resources to do it, but it's already been done. I'm not asking them to do additional effort, dude; I'm asking them to act on the fact that they already did it. Year 1 gear is still usable in 95% of PvP, so they had to balance it, and they will always have to balance it, until the end of the game. Even if it only affects 20% of the game (regular PvP), they still have to put in the same amount of effort to balance the "Meta" as they would if they were balancing the entire game... Because they still have to balance every weapon in the game. As such, there is no, goddam reason to leave Y1 behind. Its asinine.
