customisation lack of complexity

the problem i have with destiny is the lack of customisation. i often find myself with multiple sets of gear for stats and buffs i want yet end up destroying them because other gear has a better light level. these days higher light level always outclasses item quality or stats. legendary and even exotic items i often find are not worth leveling or even keeping because the light level difference is so vast. are you going to use a 290 blue or a 220-280 legendary. the same goes for should i infuse that 290 with a 280 and get a 288 instead. its not a great system at all. for me i need to be able to customise everything not just the light level. i would like to see a system of item drops much like the husk of the pit but the items starting at rare with no bonuses and a node system implemented which allows players to swap out nodes on their legendary items as the need arises. this would allow me to keep my best looking legendarys and tailor them to how i want to play. this would also supply me with more content from the lower content as i farm bosses for the best nodes to fit in my stuff. i see it working like this. rare armor/weapon drops from strike/raid boss. get "X" amount of kills with this item fit to unlock its true power. "X" kills later the upgrade node appears which unlocks this armor to a base light level for a legendary. you now unlock empty nodes in that item which you can fill with the nodes you want (with some restrictions). now i can tailor my stuff to the weapons and abilities i like to use with the suit of armor i like the look of best. that would be the basic premise of the idea. at the same time factions stores would supply prefit items like they do now but cheaper but not upgradeable. they would also sell faction nodes which are expensive and all faction packs would drop un-noded items which can be upgraded. this would give players a base level and a use for the often low level faction items early on while giving them reason to continue faction farming to get the gear they want at a customisable level. all items will drop with 1 extra node depending on type of item i.e general drops from play have a base amount of nodes. heroic/nightfall would have +1 while raid and exotic would have +2 (exotics would be fixed like they are now but with the 2 extra nodes as customising. same total as raid legendary). i see nodes in different catagories and specific to certain items: base stats - these will drop at a base level upto a max level allowing for constant upgrade options. higher for raid drops. light - these would drop at a fixed amount at different levels of content. raids dropping the best weapon and ability nodes - in all the combinations we currently get will drop across all content old and new but off specific bosses enemy/raid specific - raid buffs meaning any item can be converted to any particular raid with this i can use any item i like the look off, customise it 100% to my playstyle and take it from base level all the way to challenge mode heroic raids while not limiting content like HOW did with its "upgrade anything to max" with a click of a button or like TTK is doing currently with random light levels with upto 100 points differences. this will keep me looking for items at all levels of content to get the things i want rather than waiting on weekly resets to allow me to advance. this will allow me to advance my character customisation while waiting for weekly resets to advance my character progression. seems complicated but that's only in the context that destiny is extremely simple when it comes to lack of customisation compared to most other games.
