I wanna see if the synopsis I have is any good. Remember I still have 3 years so it's a developing project.
The year is 2056. The fictional country of Haven is under control by the National Freedom Movement or Nafromov, a fascist party. It's a post-apocalyptic world where the United States has been ravaged by war, terror and disease. Out of fear and desperation, the American people elect Nafromov in a landslide. Taking advantage of his majority, Marcus Anthony Stark, the party leader and U.S. president sinks his influence into the Christian church, and several neo-nazi organizations, instilling his ideology over a period of years. In the process, he renames his country and capital, Haven and Victory City respectively. Eventually he and top ranking party members form the ultimate one-party, totalitarian state; all the while, persecuting minorities to preserve their ideals. The story would revolve around Milton Jackson, a 36 year old father and husband. He's second in command to the president but secretly is disillusioned with his party's principles. He must decide to either live in hatred and shame of his country or attempt to do what he thinks is right, subsequently putting his family in danger.
What does everyone think?

I think you need better names.

I'd read it

This sounds interesting. Using an actual religion like Christianity could prove to be problematic. Some publishers may be afraid to publish the book and even if it does get published the Christians will go crazy and try to boycott the book. Of course the choice to include Christianity is up to you. Good luck.

The Nazi allegory is far too obvious. You'd have to "reveal the monster" in a more subtle fashion. Plus it will be harder to swallow than most dystopian stories. Many dystopian stories allude to Communism, not Facism, because modern civilization is on a far more Communistic road. No one is worried about neo-Nazis. There hasn't been a serious neo-Nazi movemement since the 60's and even then they were against violece. I suppose it could happen and it is fiction after all. But people won't be able to relate to it as easily.

Does anyone else think it's odd that the President is named Tony Stark?
-
Eh not my type of story :|

Sounds a bit like that book burning story

Edited by Cheesemaster: 11/21/2015 6:42:56 AMI'd definitely read it

Like someone stated before, Dystopian is pretty much sealed and done. Books are hard, but atleast you're creative, sure you can come up with something else.
-
Why would you single put a single religion in this? Might be popular with neckbeards, but otherwise I advise you to take out the Christian part, and just go with neo -godwinslaw!-.
-
Positively uninteresting. Dystopian futures under totalitarian regimes were basically completely covered by Orwell. There's no theme you are exploring that wasn't unfortunately already covered, and better, by him, and the million others who came in his wake. As a genre the totalitarian dystopia novel has been utterly drained out, it's like vampires. Are you likely to bring something new and important to the table? Not really, and no judging by your synopsis.

It seems like Hitler's rise to power with different countries and names.
-
The year is 2056
Already lost my attention. Too many stories have this as their attention getter, and it's a terrible attention getter. No joke, you already made me lose attention to the book. It's unoriginal the first 4 words are. And that's all it takes to lose a buyer. Never start a sentence with something not exciting.
-
I don't want to come off as mean but there are alot of books about apocalyptic futures. It sounds like it would be good though.
-
The overall story board seems good. But I would change the names of the country and capital to what they actually are now. I don't think it's realistic that the American people would be ok with changing the name of the country and no less the capital named after our greatest founding father.
-
With good writing, yes. But lots of people work on the wrong thing when writing novels
-
Nafromov sounds clunky and doesn't flow. I think NFM would be better, or just The Movement. Other than that, I like it.
-
I've been working on my screenplay for like ever.

Edited by Taskforcem85: 11/21/2015 2:20:40 AMMake sure your characters are human, and the scenarios make sense in the world they're in. No one wants to read about Chuck Norris in a fascist medieval drama. Also accept that a lot of your first writing is going to be garbage. Just keep submitting, and trying. You'll make it eventually.
-
Not a bad start, but it's a bit... Generic? Don't take that the wrong way. It's just that every other novel that comes out these days is a dystopian story. Not saying it wouldn't be good, because the base doesn't sound bad. Just a bit too familiar-sounding at the moment.

Edited by AnonymousGlasses: 11/20/2015 11:57:59 PMIt's good, but don't do it for drama's sake. Take some lesson that you want to teach through the characters or some cosmic conflict that you want to vicariously show through symbols and actions. This is how you write a bestseller. Why neo's? Make sure you have a clear reason of why the leader Marcus would choose this type of investment?

I'd read it.
